I'm more excited about the bondtech extruder and perhaps having the C1 be better at printing TPU than I am about the multiple extruders. The INDX extruders seem better suited for tpu because of the automatic adjustment of the gears against the filament. I've not preordered the upgrade kit at this time, but I'm going to follow quite closely here to see what people's experiences are with them. 92A and above tpu work ok on the core one for me with a couple mods, but software, like 85A and below, not so much.

Fingers crossed the INDX is great so I can order an upgrade kit for one of my Core ones.

I've successfully printed 85A using the Bogie and main plate mods and feeding it in directly from the top. Even then it was a bit fiddly. I certainly wouldn't go below that on a Nextruder.

his is idle speculation on my part but wondering if the future Core One (or Core Two I guess) will replace the Nextruder with BondTech and be priced like the XL. Meaning you can buy a 1 or 2 tool option and expand it later. Or go "all-in" and get the 8 tool up front.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

My current list of printers.
Two C1s, upgraded, bought originally as MK3S.
One 5-tool XL, one of the very first batch shipped, after 18months waiting on preoroder.

The XL was a hot mess for a while until several firmware upgrades made it fairly reasonable. For soft tpu you do still have to help get it started after pushing through the bowden tube. THere are still some annoyance with the XL, it's mostly ok.

I bought two of the MK4S -> CoreOne upgrades when they came out. I installed one of them and waited nearly a year to install the second one because I wanted to put it through it's paces. I found getting at the extruder on the C1 is a bit annoying. And with soft tpu, you aften have to help get thing started. Similarly to the XL, but those are much easier to get at when you need to.

I would love it if the XL and the coreone(or as you said maybe coretwo) all used the same extruder. it would real make filament profiles easier to manage. As it is is now, I have two for each filament, one for XL and one for the core one. Having interchangable extruders would be so nice.

It's got to be better than the MMU right?
I'm hoping it'll end up par with the XL tools (but probably taking longer to change because the next one can't be pre-heated).

I wonder what that "constant" heating/cooling does to the power usage actually
Anyone know if the XL keeps the other tools hot if it is switching between them fairly quickly? Or does it let them cool down too?

I found getting at the extruder on the C1 is a bit annoying.

I've upgraded one of my MK4's to a C1 too and I left the rivets on the top pane out and used magnetic tape. I see on the Core One L that they found it annoying too as they've replaced the rivets there by plastic latches. I'm still hoping I can add those to the C1.

The XL can keep them parked heated, usually like 170 or so. but in the filament profile you can specify. I've replaced the little rubbery covers on my docks once, The constant parking of the extruders while hot can wear them down. I think the theory is that leaving them at say 170 or so reduces the amount of time. But I've not found the default to be a problem though. Tool changes on the XL oare lightning fast. Having come from many hundreds of hours on an MMU2, I can tell you that I'd never got back to an MMU solution ever.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

for the first coreone, I ended up printing one of these
https://www.printables.com/model/1226383-prusa-core-one-magnetic-top-cover-with-integrated

I have found it to work pretty well. I've not yet printed one for the second coreone yet, but I probably will.

the problem with the XL is that while it's freaking awesome… It's also freaking huge.

so if you wanna put it on your desk, it gets in the way...

unless your desk is 4 m²

It's also a beast weight wise.
In my case I'm lucky I have a large attic. All my printers are there on dedicated tables (I started out in my office but outgrew it way too fast).
I still had to move the MK3 and MK4 out of the way since my Core One L arrived but found that I don't use those anymore since the magic of auto-levelling and so on. Weight wise that surprised me to be honest, it's fairly light. I guess for the XL all the tool heads add a lot.

I also prefer a chamber, so the XL is the only non-chambered printer I still use often (I really hate the chamber system they made for that one).
Single material is mainly the Core One and now that I have the Core One L, I have a chambered variant for bigger sizes too. First experiment with PC-CF went flawless, They really are great machines.

Thank you, would've saved me some precious time in the past 😀
Since the printer will get a new hat when the INDX arrives I'm not going to add that anymore.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

yeah, the XL is large and heavy to be sure.  I have it on a dedicated bench , and my two C1's on a separate bench.  both benches have wheels so I can move them around if needed. I orginally wanted the wheels so I could move the printers by the window if I wanted to hook up ventilation for things like ABS/ASA.   Since then I've rigged up a ventilation solution using dry hose and some 3d printed tubing + some custom tube pieces I made that have blast gates in them.  This way I can open up ventilation to whichever printer needs to vent outside, or simply outside the enclosure.

For the chamber on the XL I ended up going with the 3d-upfitters one.  it does the job.  but now that I have the core ones I do like the fact that the core ones have awareness of the chamber temp, etc.   I'm hoping prusa will give us an upgrade to the XL at some point soon.  I was never a fan of the bellows thing from prusa, so I' hoping maybe we'll get something more similar to the C1 and C1L as an upgrade.

Anyway I'm excited about the bondtech INDX thing so really looking forward to some experiences posted here once folks start getting them.

There are enclosure options.  I have the Sumo on mine and it works very well.
