RE: Update...(Kind of)

Regarding the US price, the $999 MSRP includes a 15% tariff (Thanks TACO). When adjusted ($849.15), it is actually more competitive than the Bondtech price of $873.75. Additionally, once the kit or assembled versions become available, I expect the total cost to be lower than the current $1,299 + $999 calculation. Since the Nextruder cost would be removed from the equation, I anticipate a price adjustment of approximately $250.I also believe the price increase from the founder is justified given their current investments in injection molding and ongoing R&D.The only change I would have preferred is a modification to the tension bracket so that the head could be mounted the other way with the dock positioned inside.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

I would expect a price drop for Bambu Labs' H2 series of printers once other large printers with tool (or nozzle) changing capability become available. At the moment the H2 printers, in particular the H2D and H2C, seem disproportionately expensive compared to their P2 and X2 siblings. I assume that's simply because Bambu can get away with it, since there is not much competition when you want (300 mm)³ build volume, an enclosed/heated chamber, and nozzle or tool changing.

So Prusa will probably continue to be under price pressure. But it seems that the Core One L is holding its own nicely at the current price, even though it is significantly above the H2S -- the online store still shows 4 to 5 weeks lead time due to high demand.

Apologies for triggering the decent into a price comparison.
My original thought was just that I can understand why they use those printers to compare the waste but the comparison is a little stretched based on overall capabilities and pricing.

Im an FE backer so I am clearly happy to invest the money in Prusa premium.

My first dabble into 3d printing was with the Ankermake m5 which I backed on Kickstarter… around the same time as Bambu had theirs for the XC1. I went with Ankermake as I knew the brand but clearly I backed the wrong horse. I specifically moved to Prusa after fighting  that printer for years to get good prints, only for anker to get left in the dust by Bambu and ultimately make the decision to leave the market shortly after entering. So that printer now is slowly moving towards being a paper weight as you are mo longer able to buy the proprietary parts for it.

prusa sold me on the upgrade for plan the long term support. Also having worked on my first printer so much I wanted a kit so I could be intimate with it from the start rather than that anxiousness of breaking something when you go to repair something else.
If I can get many years out of the C1 with upgrade paths as an option then I’ll remain happy with my purchase and investment in Prusa

I'm with you there buddy.
We're fighting a losing battle though, with more and more people opting to give that vile company that I wont mention their money, I think we're just ever so slightly slowing down the extinction of non-chinese consumer 3d printers.

With the current global situation, there’s a massive swing from globalisation to protectionism. EU likely will start to catch up on the trend. At the moment only a light hand has been taken, small things like 3eur tariff per item under 150eur from China is one, larger tariffs on Cars another. I can see this ramping up in the coming years, which will give Prusa and other EU companies a small lifeline… while costing everyone more 😂

That is why most of my printers are Prusas. Most of the rest are tinkering or experimentation machines.

RE:

I can't think of what further upgrade paths there could be for a Core One? A 24VDC chamber heater perhaps? Maybe an upgraded 48VDC power supply and bed with fans? It's established that it won't be an AC bed like the L. My guess is the Core One has reached an end-point. Again arm-chair speculation but the next printer will be a Core Two which will be an evolution of the Core One L. But again because of the AC bed and other issues, I would be surprised if there is going to be an upgrade path available. It seems clear that Prusa's kit days are over.

RE: Update...(Kind of)

(From my limited knowledge in this area) They should be able to get around the electrical safety concerns and certification of the AC bed by providing it as a complete plug and play unit, rather than the individual components like the dc bed.
i honestly think the lack of a core one L kit, is less to do with the AC bed and more to do with the level of issues and troubleshooting time spent as a result of the core one kits.

That's my thinking as well.

I think there would be an additional requirement: That self-contained heatbed would have to be a Class II device regarding electrical safety, i.e. double-insulated. It can't rely on all chassis parts around it being safety-grounded, since the user can't be trusted to make those connections properly and test that they meet the low-impedance requirements.

A complete electronics replacement for Klipper? Doesn't bring much benefit by itself but paves the way into the future. While at it, allow each Z stepper to be driven independently and maybe mechanical endstops in XY to end the headbanging misery from sensorless homing.

We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun-And have it on Highway 61
