So all the plastic parts are SLS prints? Well I never 😳

Yup... laser fused, powdered Nylon. Retail/Production units are supposed to be injection molded.

Ya the SLS for the founders is confirmed. Getting the mounds perfected for the injection and mass production is likely half the time in the background causing delays for general release. Considering bondtechs typical consumers and the fact that they released files for most of the parts for self printing it’s not too crazy. I mean in prusa world the majority of components in our printers are fdm 🤷🏻‍♂️

Im far from an apologist but I’d like to think any further delays are them fixing the teething issues that we would be stumbling into. I’d rather wait a few more weeks for a product that works.

It’s disappointing but Im all in now.

What will annoy me is delays and a half finished product.

I’m still firming sitting on my fence. Have my founders pre order but holding off committing more. Every other day I think feck this I’m out… and then I have these exact same thoughts. The next announcement will decide it for me. Or hondtech calling time while I procrastinate

I suppose if a part broke I could reprint it in PSU-CF or the like. Irony is I wouldn't be able to reprint it on the Core One and would have to use the H2D.

After all, Bondtech is probably printing them on a Bambu printer.... 😉

It's SLS so they are probably using a FormLabs printer with Nylon 12 powder. Not sure if it's neat, CF or GF. I'm just looking for the closest equivalent in a FDM filament in case I need to print spare parts.

Nah, that's why you got to keep the Nextruder around. Just convert the Core One back to its original state and it can take care of itself. 😉

Confirmed by BondTech that they are using PA12-GF (powdered SLS), so the closest match would be PPA-CF (in terms of strength and heat deflection). It is (barely) in reach of a Core One. Doesn't necessarily need a heated chamber so the INDX could potentially rep-rap itself.

Which one are you building mate? I’ve been watching quite a lot of Steve Builds on YouTube recently.

It's a 2.4,  350mm Stealthchanger with the odd bit of CNC. So far, rock solid. Not nearly as noisy as the video makes it but you feel Z-steps through the floor...

Wait so people are unhappy with SLS parts now, even though we've known this all along ?

I'm not unhappy, for a change 😅

I genuinely didn't know the parts were printed, although other than the hullabaloo of the announcement and functionality details, I've not looked into the finer details.

I'm sure they'll be fine, I mean if they're not they wouldn't be using it right? Right.......? 👀😅

A lot of Bondtech kit is already SLS printed, they have a farm of SLS printers.

They said soon after announcing that founders kit would be largely SLS printed.

They'll be footing the bill for anything that breaks (within warranty) so worrying about the filament required to print replacements for parts that no one has even received yet is a weird place to be in IMO 😂

I missed that 😅

If they're warranting the parts I'd like to think they'll be more than suitable........😉

Yeah, odd place to be considering that nobody has hands on the founders edition yet. Maybe the delay is the stockpile of spares.........? 😅

Much prefer sls over fdm! Not really a big deal in my mind, lack of info is much more of a concern. Obviously injection moulded would be more integral but let’s face it the failure point will be firmware. I think if the firmware ends up smashing the print head into one for the tools, it won’t matter much how it’s made 😂

When I completed building the Core One, the first thing I did was pick up a roll of PC-CF and printed all of the important bits like belt tension pulley holders and fan shrouds. Good thing I did because both broke. Would I have been able to contact Prusa and get a free one sent out under warranty? Absolutely! And it would have taken a week to get it not including the hassle of contacting support and explaining the situation. If I can print a temporary replacement, why not? What if I'm running a home business and can't afford down time?

Would I be printing spare parts for my setup? Definitely no. At least for others there is an option.

SLS parts are definitely stronger that FDM since they won't split along layer lines like an FDM part could.

There won't be firmware ready when we receive the kits. It'll be through g-code in PrusaSlicer. I can imagine possibly configuring the Core One to essentially be a XL.

They haven't been very transparent with communicating what will be included in the Founder's Edition kits. There was also a Discord thread where it was implied that the Founders kits would be injection molded the same as production. Obviously that is not the case, however it took effort to confirm whether that was true or not.

No, I'm not going to wade through 6 months of Discord chats, 90% of which are memes to find you a link so can take my word for it or not. This is what I remembered. And yes, there was a specific thread where users were under the impression the Founders kits would be injection molded. Frankly I don't care what it is. Obviously injection molded parts will have better tolerances and look better.

Bondtech were open at the very start that the parts would be SLS printed for the founders kit, so I very much doubt it was anyone from Bondtech or Prusa floated this idea.
I guess the lesson here is not to believe everything the kids on Discord say.

Besides, it doesn't matter how the parts look, we wont be seeing them from behind the fun fence 😂
