Door handle falling off due to poor fastening – a nuisance!

I found a great solution to a common problem in Printables, and it's so simple.

Hello Prusa Devs:

Why didn't you think of including these parts and integrating them into the Core One assembled/kit?

A small change to the assembly instructions, and two small pieces of PETG,  nothing more!

This would certainly have eliminated many complaints about the poor fastening of the door handle.

I don't find anything wrong with nuts. Don't those large plastic parts get in the way of grabbing the door handle, so you have to make sure you grab it inbetween?

By the way: If you want to flip the hinges over to the other side, there is unfortunately only one hole in the left frame part to receive the screw head. Prusa seems to have forgotten the lower hole on that side. So flipping the hinges is not quite compatible with using screws for the door handle.

@Jürgen

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you. Using nuts places high stress on the Plexiglas panel around the holes due to the lever action of the handle.

Thanks to @chwiede's solution shown above, the contact surface on the Plexiglas panel is significantly larger and therefore less critical.

With the "small" version, the handle length of 43 cm is reduced by 6 cm, leaving 37 cm. That's enough for even the thickest fingers to grip.

I don't think this is a real concern. Prusa are using bare screw heads on the hinge side of the door, where much higher forces occur.

Everybody is free to use extra 3D printed parts of course. But I feel that this is an example of the "if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" approach which is somewhat common with 3D printing hobbyists. 😋

It's more like: Prusa dropped the ball with adhesive feet and door handle so the community comes to the rescue to correct a mistake. Of course just a nut works fine and that's what I had but then when my niece commented: "It doesn't look cute" I decided the nuts have to go and 3D printed wedges are "cuter..."
