CoreOne weird sound while printing at certain velocity
Hello,
my CoreOne is printing pretty well but sometimes at a certain velocity it sounds like there is some weird resonance or some rail not running smoothly or so. I made attached video with the weird sound (however, seems like sound is disabled for embedded video, so, right click and open in new tab will open it with sound, sorry). I did not change or adjust anything after I received it. Anyone having a similar issue or any clue what to look at?
CoreOne weird sound
Thanks and best regards,

RE:
I can't open the video but there is a lot of discussion on the forum about Core one noise.
My own conclusion so far (mine is fairly quiet):
- it is not advertised as a quiet printer
- stepper motors have manufacturing tolerances that can make some very quiet. But those couldn't be ordered at reasonable price so there is variation
- e.g. my X- and Y axis motor make fairly different sounds when I turn the shafts on the disassembled components. This is something we may have to accept at this price level (meaning medical / military / space would surely find ways around the noise but not for budget-conscious mass production). My own conclusions - I'm no mechatronics expert
- There are ways to reduce the noise: "Input shaping" and "Phase stepping" (which identify problematic frequencies and work around them in the electrical signals to the steppers). You can re-run the calibrations with an accelerometer, which isn't included by default but fairly cheap (gives an excuse to order some nozzles, maybe...)
- There is always "Stealth mode" so the printer doesn't floor the pedal when I want to sleep in the next room.
Many of these sounds are a sign that lubrication is needed: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/regular-printer-maintenance-core-one_829710
Resonance does happen though and often it is a combination of the printer and the worktop it is resting on that vibrates. The simple test is temporarily to move the printer to another surface and the simple fix is to change the resonant frequency of the couple - look up the concrete paver fix.
Cheerio,

Thanks all!
It's not about the printer not being silent, it's about the noise sounding like something is not okay, not lubricated, not aligned, whatever.
I lubricated the x and y rails and put the printer temporarily onto a heavy flagstone with dampers underneath (where usually my MK3S lives) but that did not change anything. I ordered the accelerometer kit, let's see if that improves things then.
Cheers...

Be very careful lubricating the X-axis (linear rail) it has to be done correctly with a special lubricant and injected into the slider through a port. If you lubricated the rail itself, remove it or it will damage the rail. Similarly lubricating the smooth rods won't work. You have to remove the bearing and lubricate it internally using the lubrication adapter.

RE: CoreOne weird sound while printing at certain velocity
I believe (happy to be corrected) that some of the sounds in regular operation sound fairly "broken" - not at all the high-pitched whine I'd expect from steppers - but are normal.
In particular, one "crunchy" noise I'm thinking about seems more pronounced when the belts are on the tight side of "in tune". It doesn't sound healthy but seems to be normal.
To confuse things, the metal arm for the print head cable / PTFE tube can slip and bang against the back wall. But that's an obvious one, once I'm looking for it.
