Arbitrary supports appearing up to previous attempt's shifted layer
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
I've tried to print this lithopane lamp a few times and twice it layer shifted at the exact same layer. Online searches showed that it may be the 'avoid crossing perimeters' option causing the print to layer shift and then crash, or perhaps too high of print speed/ acceleration.
However, when I went to reslice with some of those changes, I saw that it built support up to the arbitrary layer where it keeps layer shifting. I only noticed this because I accidentally had support settings turned on 'build plate only.' What could cause this? Does it think there is invisible material there that is causing the layer shift? I actually printed one with a different collage of photos just fine before this. Slightly thinner walls, but otherwise same dimensions.
This one actually does require supports at the base because it's a custom fitting to an existing lamp. The supports, however, are not the issue. The issue is layer shifting. Let me give a timeline if it makes it more clear.
Print1: Supports that are enforced up to layer 44 print fine, the print continues to layer 648 where it layer shifts and fails.
Here I try slowing down print, changing a few variables.
Print2: Supports that are enforced up to layer 44 print fine, the print continues to layer 648 where it layer shifts, survives the layer shift but layer shifts in another 20 layers and then in another 5 layers and fails.
Here I try removing 'don't cross perimeters' because I've found its a known bug
Print3: Go to slice, but accidentally have supports on 'build plate only' instead of 'enforcers only'. Its fine, I would just reslice, but I noticed something strange. For some reason, when it was allowed to build supports to where it thought they were needed, it put them up to the layer 4xx that layer shifted. The supports are not supporting any material, and are completely detached from the model. This makes me think the layer shift is being caused by prusaslicer.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Pic below of slice 3 attempt showing arbitrary supports appearing up to previous attempt's shifted layer
RE: Arbitrary supports appearing up to previous attempt's shifted layer
To diagnose the issue we would need your saved Prusa Slicer project file. File>Save Project As and then take the 3mf that will save and ZIP it up and attach it to a reply here. Must be zipped or the forum will silently reject the file.
A PS project file contains not only the model(s) but all your currently applied settings as well as any thing else like modifiers, painting etc.
