You can send them some money right now, Prusa's bank details are known! 😉

As we all know, there is only a weak and hard-to-predict correlation between the date they take money and the date they ship. Later followed by the date the product works smoothly...

With the Core One, I almost hit the pre-order button on the kit but hesitated. Then I pushed the button in February. I didn't get my kit until the end of June (4.5 months later). That in hindsight was a good thing. By the time my kit arrived most of the bugs had been ironed out, not by Prusa, but by forum members. Had I received my kit a couple of months earlier, I probably would have taken a hammer to it. For my side hobbies, I have need of a multi-material setup but hesitate to go with the MMU3. Assuming the C1 Bondtech INDX gets announced soon I will wait out 6 months. Meanwhile if a competitor (that rhymes with "nap maker") has a viable alternative there is a high probably I'll jump and maybe donate the C1 to the local school.

This is very noble of you, and If I might suggest the GB160 School of Nonsense would be very grateful for your donation 😂

I have to say that Snapmaker looks very impressive, and at that price point Prusa are going to have to be very aggressive with their pricing on the Core One INDX.

I need a multi material printer, and will be buying on within the next 12 months...but I just can't swallow the Prusa tax anymore.
It's sad because deep down I just don't think they'll be able to compete wrt to pricing, its current pre-order price is lower than a Core One and I think my hand is going to be forced away from Prusa.

I understand the woe around the pricing. But i also have to say, the amount of times the Support from Prusa has helped me understanding my problems and got me on the right track saved me a lot of hours. So valuing my time and the consistency of my CoreOne, I don't think I would even consider buying something else.

I interacted with support once when I had a bad build plate I bought from Prusa. They kindly sent me a new one. Otherwise, all the C1 issues I've had have been solved here in these forums. I would expect the same if I switched to Bambu or Snapmaker. Meaning the "Prusa tax" (in my view) is past it's sell-by date.

It all depends on the price point that Prusa go with.

No doubt there’ll be a C1 available with the INDX included. But as a C1 owner Im more interested in the upgrade path and cost of it.

If the price of the upgrade comes anywhere near the price of  the U1 then I won’t be able to justify it.
I’d be better off keeping the C1 as is, and buying the U1 just for my multi material needs. I’d rather take the hit on space and have the benefit of being able to run 2 printers simultaneously. 3d printers are as much a tool for which I can genrerate income for me as it is a hobby.

I’ve just got this nagging feeling that the Prusa offering is not going to represent good value for money.

This really hits the nail on the head. Value for money. I really enjoyed my MK4S to Core One upgrade. Building kits is fun. And I justified the upgrade as inexpensive given it was "only" $520 for a new printer. But then the U1 is $750 (to kickstart backers) and $849 on pre-order: Snapmaker U1 I'm so tempted to push the button... But I'll wait until the pricing on the INDX is announced...

I think the price of the system from Bondtech will define most of the cost. Based on their newest post around that, there will be more info at FormNext 2025:

Visitors at FormNext 2025 will see the latest version live, applied, and running. Everyone will get the first chance to pre-order from our webshop, with deliveries starting late Q1 2026. As soon as possible, after we reach the final shape of the smart toolhead, we’ll start sharing simplified geometries to allow implementation projects to flourish. (full post here)

So beginning of November there should be more clarification. Maybe Prusa will have a demo model there to see how they implemented it. Esp how they will look to place the spools, since they did show 6 heads.

That post is a somewhat euphemistic way to say: "We ran into issues that required another major redesign, which was not in the plan." Fingers crossed that Gen 4 will be the production-ready design!

That's annoying, your post just cost me $850 🤣 . I pushed the button on the U1 pre-order.

RE:

Keep in mind that Bondtech has (I believe)  an open survey for customer input.  Rather than assuming that their Gen 4 was in response to trouble, it could have just as easily been in response to survey input.  Obviously we can't know which it is, but if you go through the process of offering a large scale survey, it seems to reason you'd be responsive to its findings.

I, for one, filled it out with the things that are important to me, which is stuff that the U1 does not offer.  I've mentioned on this forum that my office just picked up a Qidi Q2 to be able to make random low volume replacement parts.  My experience with that printer has taught me that I have very little interest in a printer that does not have a dedicated chamber heater.  Separating the chamber heat from the set bed temp is incredible.  Granted I'm not using specialty 3dxTech filaments on my home printer, so the need of 65c is less critical...but I have already seen the need to drop the bed to below 90c while keeping the chamber maxed out at 65c to address printing quality.  On printers that don't have a dedicated chamber heater, this kind of tuning isn't possible.  I of course included this info in my survey feedback on the Bondtech site.

I can still print ASA beautifully at home on my Core One, but the time to launch cannot compare to the Q2's chamber heater.  I know the future is in multi extrusion path printing (Tool Changers or Nozzle Changers as in INDX) but those printers probably won't be on my purchase radar until they are able to be combined with a 65c heated chamber.  This affordable (marketed as entry level) Q2 has been a joy of a single headed printer so far.

TLDR:  I'm really excited about the INDX and what it represents....but I've been spoiled with a dedicated chamber heater and 65c chamber temps, and may not be willing to jump onboard until they can integrate the INDX into such a printer.

Although it’s tempting right now, I really need to consider a chamber with whatever multi material printer i go for. I have to show some patience and see what Prusa and other companies will be offering.

I may have been a few beers in when I pushed the button but don't regret it. The U1 has an enclosed chamber option with an active heater. I'm sure I'll be in a world of hurt when it arrives and the software lets me down. We will see. I'll keep the Core One as part of a "blended" family.
