What does the + mean?

Exactly what does the + bring to the Core One?  Looking online at the store I see no differences from what's sitting on my tabletop.

I think I finally found the answer by going to the store page and finding the $10 upgrade kit. It features an automatic louver opening scheme, a new filament feed better suited to flex, a new spool holder design, and something else I don't recall - oh, new firmware. I pushed BUY just for the possible filament feed improvement.

https://www.prusa3d.com/product/prusa-core-one-to-core-one-upgrade/

Key features:

Automatic Top Vent Operation: The extruder now automatically opens the vent for low-temp materials (PLA/PETG) and closes it for high-temperature materials, ensuring the optimal thermal environment and creating a true "set-and-forget" experience.

Easy Flex Loading: A redesigned filament insertion point makes the process of feeding flexible filaments quick and simple.

New Bayonet-Style Spoolholder: Allows you to use various spool sizes. Ready for a direct-feed drybox.

Firmware & Performance: Includes all software updates from the entire lifespan of the CORE One, resulting in even better print quality and smoother operation right out of the box.

When shipping costs more than the actual item, it's a pass from me. Not until I have something else to order that makes it worth paying that ridiculous hipping price.

You have a 3D printer, so its easy to make them yourself 🙂

I really don't understand the line that says

"Firmware & Performance

Is it just marketing on the product page?

I can only see two options ahead:

1. There are two firmware versions, one for core one and one for core one plus

2. Same firmware for core one and core one + with a setting to use the auto open/close vent functionality or not (i.e. I should be able to enable it on my core one - non plus - and it should just do the motions with no effect).

I really can't understand why (1) would be a good option so I guess they just wanted to have a bigger list of improvements and added that?!

Probably I am missing something

I agree but in the country I live in; I don't expect much better. CoreOne+ it shall be.

You don't get all the extras like stickers that visible notification that; yes, it's a CoreOne+ 😉

Cut two little strips of white adhesive tape and make yourself a "+" for the door! 😉

RE:

It's a bit of a shame to call this "Core One +" if only 10g of filament is added... i'm somewhat disappointed on this renaming - it's definitely not worthed.  The number of improvements i put on my Core One alone then mine should be called Core One ++++++++++ already...

The decent "plus" calling would be when indx upgrade will be added - THAT would be ok to call it "core one +"

.

They did it with the Mini, just the change of bed probe was the only difference I think.

I assume what they mean is: "With the Core One + upgrade, you can actually benefit from all the firmware improvements." (Namely, you can actually use the automated vent operation.)

Or maybe they wanted to say: "If this '+' upgrade looks a bit measly, please keep in mind that we have also made various firmware improvements already -- so we do continue to take care of the Core One."

RE: What does the + mean?

Thank you for the message Jürgen,

Your way of putting things makes it more clear for me. Indeed, without the added features you'd be missing out on some things your firmware can do ; that makes sense.

In regards to if this is or is not a + worthy upgrade , I am glad they did it because now the core one L and core one + are on equal grounds again (if you ignore build volume, heatbed and maybe some NFC things?!) so it makes sense. Then you need to call it something because otherwise you'd have people each having a core one that can do different things (eat some tpu easily and close the vent).

All the plastic parts for the + should be available on Printable soon enough no? That's what I would expect. Might as well wait, download and print.

They already are: https://www.printables.com/model/1486513-prusa-core-one-to-core-one-upgrade-community-versi

There's also a link on that page for the installation instructions.

Perfect, thanks! I'll have to remix the vent opener to work with the magnetic top mod. And... I already have the filament sensor mod installed (not the switch but moving the magnet further away). Oh and I like my spool modification.... Seems I already have the +

RE:

hmmm... The filament sensor mod is to be printed in PETG and not PC as before. I guess that means the 2 Bowden tube ends directly meet. Otherwise I have filaments what would wear down PETG in a heartbeat.

Actually, I think I saw the new + stickers in the upgrade kit ... lol.  But my Mk3 which has been mostly upgraded to a Mk4 still says Mk3 and prints just fine.
