RE: The Core One Kit Waiting List

I just noticed that when I ordered the CORE One Kit I had ordered the wrong camera 😱

The correct camera name for the CORE One is the "BUDDY Camera for PRUSA Core one" and not "BUDDY 3D Camera"

Since my kit was not yet shipped, I edited the order and cancelled the wrong camera, but I did not add the correct camera since I don't want to take the risk that because of it, the whole order is delayed 12 weeks!

The camera is not important for me, and I can purchase even months later or not purchase at all.

Regards

I have the feeling there are a lot of people in here that don’t really know what they want, but they want it now.

I want a solid printer, ideally from a solid company. Kit form is a nice bonus since I like the assembly, but that is not what drives the purchase decision.

What is non-negotiable is a printer that works really well. That's not where the Core One is right now -- so lacking that, I want transparency that Prusa is aware of the issues, is taking them seriously, and is working on them. I am disappointed that they cannot even deliver on that transparency.

I don't recall ever expressing that I want the printer now.

I don’t recall mentioning your name.

For what it’s worth, I wasn’t considering you when I made that comment.

I have a sneaking suspicion the reported low update rate of the camera is due to the poor wifi implementation on the Core One itself. So either they manage to improve on that with a firmware update (hopefully soonish), or otherwise I'll just connect the camera to the raspberry pi running Octoprint directly.

Posted by: @scotttomo

I understand if people would like a camera to monitor their new printer, but by all reports, it's a bit crap anyway isn't it?

Only the customers can decide if it is worth delaying their order or not, but it's not worth the hassle IMO.

Does seem crazy to me that with such competition in the arena, Prusa still have  issues like this upon release. In all seriousness, what would it take to update the WIFI module? It seems the Prusa community is very very patient, which is admirable. But I do think they do need to update the way they operate the release of new products to make them top tier upon release and not 6 mo the down the line with a firmware update.

As an open source project this could be addressed by anyone with the know-how or vibe needed to code the solution.

RE: The Core One Kit Waiting List

With the shipment of the first kits now imminent, I have been going back and forth whether I want to take a chance on the Core One or cancel my early order. (And maybe order again later, when it's confirmed that Prusa has fixed the issues and that all units can produce VFA-free prints, run silently etc.) What I find reassuring, and what has encouraged me to keep my order in place, is Prusa's generous return policy.

I confirmed with the support team that this also applies to kits, and is implemented in a very friendly way:

In case you're unhappy with your kit, there is no need to dissasemble it. You can contact us and state that you wish to return it, and, provided you're within the 60 day window of return, we'll process a return in which we'll send packaging for your assembled printer so you don't have to dissassemble.

So I will build my Core One kit once I receive it, hope that I am lucky and end up with a quiet unit, or otherwise that a new firmware with phase stepping calibration will solve the problems. Fingers crossed that Prusa comes through with that within the extra 60 days! Worst case, the assembled printer could still go back to Prusa -- certainly not the outcome I want, but reassuring that it's an option if all else fails.

This is what is still holding me back from ordering a kit. My preassembled is back to Prusa to repair, but I think I will ask a refund and will buy a kit later if the printer has been updated.

I love Prusa, or at least I want to love it as much as I did when I get my i3 MK3s kit 5 years ago and it was THE printer that gave best quality print and nice "new" functions.

I honestly feel that last printers they sold were rushed - every single time - and do not feel well finished comparing to few years ago. Of course they update them and finally they are good printers, but just good, not top notch I would like them to be.

Let's wait some improvements and hope they realize issues we get are not "normal" as they seem to claim when we ask to the support.

The lack of a real solid networking platform module for their new line really hamstrings how much data they can move in and out of their printers. It will plague them forever, causing one bad decision after the other in trying to get around that limitation. First they had to compress their gcode. Now a camera that is not integrated. A new Pi board might have added 100$ to the cost. But would have saved a ton of development and support headaches and added a wealth of support for future growth.

I tend to agree. The focus on MK4S backwards compatibility and upgradability (which resulted in re-use of the xBuddy board) may have driven the wrong decisions.

I have read elsewhere that they don't consider the 0.9° stepper motors ideal either. It looks like those were an early attempt to reduce VFAs, before they came up with phase stepping calibration in the XL -- and that 1.8° motors have better torque and hence acceleration at higher speeds.

Looking forward to a "Core One S" with a new main board and motors towards the end of this year. I'm sure there will be an upgrade kit available for purchase. 😕

Really good engineering decisions know the value of testing the heck out of stuff first, then iterating quickly so that bad decisions don't haunt you forever. They should have found the poor network performance early. Now it is embedded in their XL, MKS and Prusa One and caused a huge problem for them initially and all the cost of manpower developing compressed GCODE and then the problem that caused when users didn't understand that option. And on it goes with cameras.

Yeah. I agree this is going to be huge bottleneck, impacting the whole line up and upgrade options. If you build your products to the same platform, then you futureproof the duck out of it. They should have introduced a new board with far better processing power possibly Klipper for corexy motion machines.

I bought an XL for my workplace, i am curious how that will work out as well. So now i am waiting for two printer...

Anyway i stick with them as i ordered the Core one, is going to be my third Prusa and will see if this one breaks the my streak...

RE: The Core One Kit Waiting List

This is true and seems to be at the core of Prusas customer base. Tinker, make good what we can because we can. But, the caveat to that is it alienates new customers that want minimal input to make things work, why should they? At 1k for an assembled unit. Or for a £40 camera that comes as an add-on? Really? The ethos should be, "it's open source, do what you like, heck you may even do something which improves the printer, we'll encourage it". Not, "Here's an open source project that sort of works, the frame rate on the camera is poor, there's excessive noise when the printer is in use. but we, with the community will ongoingly fault find and fix things along the way".

RE: The Core One Kit Waiting List

The camera is actually ridiculous, no matter the price point. No live feed, seperate setup process, hell nah. After i have seen its quality and framerate i cancelled it. My 5euro ESP32-CAM does better... It might overheat in the closed enclosure, but i will put all the heatsink on it if necessary..

After i have seen the camera option, ah new board, new options for features. Nope, just a seperate "cheap" wi-fi camera, that is from like 2015...

I am a tinkerer, i will tinker the duck out of the GPIO board, but Prusa should progress forward.

Planning on reverse engineering the I2C communication from the GPIO board and imitate the commands from an ESP32 without having to add a device to just open and close the contacts. Prusalink with Home Assistant does not support full control over the printer for some reason.... Only play pause and start... thanks i guess, but i want to unload the filament via voice command damn it.

It’s going to feel like a looong wait between now and 1 minute to midnight on Monday when 1 lucky person will have their kit shipped 🤣🤣🤣. I think the rest us are probably going to have to wait until mid April before we see any action ☹️

RE: The Core One Kit Waiting List // The final Countdown

So it's Countdown Time! It'll be 31.03.2025, 23:59:59, when Josef will hand the first "Batch" (aka the first Kit) to FedEx by himself to keep promises.

Leaked shipping schedule   😉

True or not, it's funny.

But it's weird to announce shipping in January for the assembled version, then in March for the kit version, but wait until the last day of the month. At this point, why not just announce it for April 1st? Maybe it would sound like an April Fools' joke, but at least we’d all have a laugh about it.
