First 3D printer what to buy with Prusa CORE One

this is my first 3D printer and I'm really not sure what all extras I should get with it.  I know I'll need filament.  One thing I know I want is the MMU3 (or newer) but do I need extra sheet?  etc.  I'm going to get everything fully assembled for me so that should help with first time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

RE:

You could buy some different sheets, as not everything prints well on the textured sheet. See https://help.prusa3d.com/filament-material-guide
But there is no point in getting multiple of the same type.
Perhaps a hardened nozzle in case you want to print abrasive filaments.

Other things not from Prusa I would recommend:
Decent pair of flush cutters
cheap set of tweezers, to clear of strings from the nozzle
small wire brush to clear debris from nozzle
Deburring tool
IPA 99% preferred
Spray bottle for the IPA to spray the sheet to clean
Precision screw driver set, in case you need to perform maintenance.

Get something with which to dry your filament, I use a lightly modified food dehydrator.

Buy some good quality filament for the first couple of months.  Once you are familiar with the process buy cheap, possibly tricky, filament for prototyping and reserve the good stuff for final prints.

Wait for a few months before you fit the MMU, as a newbie you want as few complications as possible.

So:  Keep it simple to begin with and add complications in stages as you learn.

If it's your first printer I would just stick with the basics for now. Standard PLA and stick to the stock smooth sheet to get going. Learn the slicer, how the process works, and so on. Once you are comfortable with that, then start exploring other materials and sheets should you wish to do so. The MMU3 starts to get advanced so I would get used to printing on the stock printer before you venture into multicolour.

IPA is useful for quick sheet cleaning (although warm water a dish soap works). Flush cutters are handy to cut filament.

My advice would be don't buy too much too soon. Purchase as you need/want to later after getting used to printing with a stock setup.

Oh and get a kit - by building it you will learn how the printer works, and it will make any potential troubleshooting later easier since you already know your way around the printer after building it from scratch.

With dish soap detergent and hot water you flush the grease away from the sheet instead of just distributing it with IPA. Please do not touch the sheet with fingers. E.g. use kitchen paper to take a part off the sheet. That way, you can get many dozen of prints off without any degreasing. We do not even have IPA for our printers.

A cheap scraper for a ceran-board is useful. We slighty rounded the edges of the blades of ours.

At first, learn with small and easy parts to print. Just one part per print.

I sort of disagree about the comment of not getting multiple sheets of the same type. The print sheets are considered a consumable, but unless you crash the nozzle into the sheet too much (or print with an incompatible filament for the sheet, like TPU or PETG on the smooth sheet) you shouldn't need a replacement sheet too soon. Once you've used the printer for a bit and decide which is your favorite/most-used sheet get one spare of that type as a backup.

RE:

I agree with the people above. Just go with the basic stuff. In principle everything you need is supplied with the basic package. The printer should be delivered with a smooth print sheet, so ordering a textured sheet would not be a bad idea.

I strongly advise to stick with PLA for now, until you get the feeling for 3D printing and use of the material. When you are confident enough with PLA, it's time to experiment with other materials. Learning how to use your machine and the slicer software is mandatory before jumping to more exotic materials (especially those that need a hardened nozzle, because you have to learn how to switch nozzles).

The advises for IPA and tweezers and so on are very sound. I also advise to read the supplied manual from front to back, so you have a good idea what you are doing. Watching some YouTube video's about the basics of 3D printing would not hurt either.

I myself started more than 10 years ago with 3D printing, and I started with a Acrylic monstrosity that was a nightmare to get working, let alone getting any decent results at all. Admitted - I learned a LOT about 3D printing and the (around that time rather primitive) software and firmware. I spend days tweaking hardware, compiling software and printing improved parts. It was fun, but having a complete and reliable machine like the Core One is a dream compared to those day's.

So - I advise to start with the most easy materials and setup, and only when confident enough make further steps. Jumping full in without having the basics tackled can lead to frustration and disappointment. At the end 3D printing should be something to have fun with. Oh - And a little bit of advise. Try to get your head around a CAD program. It will help so much with designing your own stuff. I myself use FreeCAD, but it can be a bit of a learning curve (although I am so confident with it that I can make complicated designs in a matter of minutes).

I am still using my original sheets from the MK3 (2017), upgraded to MK4 and now to CoreOne. They are still in very good condition. Also, they have two sides. So even if you do manage do damage one, you can still use the other side.

the only thing is if I don't get the MMU now I'll have to pay for it.  This is a gift from my mom and with the MMU I'm just under her max $ amount.

You don't have to fit it straightaway - and do you actually need it?  The MMU is rarely necessary for practical prints, even labels and graticules can be printed with manual filament changes so the majority of MMU users are printing trinkets.  You could be kind to your mother and not empty her purse...

I highly recommend the satin-sheet. We use it most of the time on all our printers at work (Core One, MK4, MK3S+). Always for PETG, PLA, ASA, CPE, PC, FLEX. The smooth sheet is hardly used anymore. The textured ones haven't been used for a very long time.

You will need a filament dryer after a while as @diem already mentioned.

My old MMU is only gathering dust. Even before I got my XL had not used it in years. It is rather multicolor than multimaterial. Each color change takes a significant time to flush the single nozzle. If you have many changes across many heights printing duration is loooong.

I build my Core One from a kit and can highly recommend that!

While the MMU is great, it can also drastically increase print times.

To put things in context for you - I printed a small figurine model that would be 2 hours in single colour, but took 12 hours in multicolour. Of course this depends upon number of filament changes etc per layer, but something to bear in mind.

I have built (assemblied) my own PCs for a while so its the kit similar or more like changing the battery on the iPhone (darn near impossible cause of TINY screws).  my fingers don't have the dexterity they once did.

Take a watch through my build videos - link in sig - and decide for yourself whether you can do it. There aren't a ton of small parts though. The printer is heavy however, and does require moving around now and then, unless you can walk around your desk that is. If you can build a PC you can build a printer kit IMO 😉

In case you choose the kit, then take your time to assemble it thoroughly. Do not slap it together. Study the assembly manual (pictures and text). If you liked to assemble PCs, you might like this too.
