FedEx Invoice
Anyone else receive an invoice from FedEx for additional shipping charges? I received my new CoreOne back in May and today I got an invoice from FedEx stating I owe $143 for the shipping of my CoreOne. Never had that happen before for other purchases and why would I get this 3 months after delivery.
I chatted with Prusa and they were no help at all. Was told this can happen and is out of their control. They didn't offer to help me track this down or to find out the real cause of the additional charges.
RE:
I guess you are located in the US? It's probably a tariff charge or customs duty. As such, it's out of Prusa's hands and the responsibility of the shipping agent to collect.
RE: FedEx Invoice
Tariffs (which are really taxes for everyone located in the US).
RE:
It's Trump's tariffs.
Don't pay it. Challenge it first.
I received a similar invoice from FedEx for my Core One. I emailed FedEx asking if the charge was valid since the US Court of International Trade (and now a Federal Court) had ruled the tariffs illegal. They said they'd get back to me. That was 3 months ago. I haven't heard anything back from them yet.
This will likely go to the Supreme Court and we'll get another example of how corrupt they are. But make them work for their money first.
RE: FedEx Invoice
Was this an upgrade or an assembled printer?
In May, the de minimus rule was still in effect, but the assembled printer exceeded USD 800 so was subject to tariffs.
Seeing that you used FedEx, they're now collecting the duty if it's an assembled printer. It's generally a poor choice to ever ship internationally via FedEx as they hugely inflate customs fees. DHL is far more honest.
Prusa has nothing whatsoever to do with this and can't help you.
RE: FedEx Invoice
Even the kit was over the $800 limit. None of the new craziness applies here (yet). I'd review the invoice more carefully - it probably is the tariff and at a rate which hasn't changed, at that. We're only able to assume based on the amount and the fact this is how tariffs work. It's unfortunate that it came as a surprise.
RE:
Yeah as @CJD mentioned this is expected if you are located in the US. It is above $800 and therefore subject to 10% import tax + Fedex fees, regardless of the current tariff war (could be wrong about the actual percentage).
For more context, look up "de minimus US". In a nutshell, if an import overall cost is >= $800, the import is subject to tariffs; conversely, if the overall cost is < $800, no taxes are required outside of whatever the shipping company may charge as a "handling fee". This has been around since even before the current administration, but they have removed it recently so all new imports are now subject to tariffs regardless of the overall cost (lol).
IIRC mine was ~$132 including the satin and textured build plates, imported into the US around the start of June. Fedex adds on quite a bit of fees for whatever reason. Also not sure why it came 3 months after your delivery... but Fedex has a certain reputation for a reason.
If anything, I'd contact Fedex for the full breakdown; Prusa has little to do with the tariff BS.
RE: FedEx Invoice
Back when I ordered large items from Europe, I used DHL; they are generally a lot better at these things than FedEx, and generally don't trash the boxes in the process.
I was very unhappy to hear DHL has stopped shipping to the US due to Trump's antics; but can't fault them for it. My recent necessary order of an accelerometer from Prusa is taking weeks when the part is in stock and has a 1-3 day prep time; yet still hasn't shipped. If I had a choice, I would not be doing business with Prusa.
Honestly, I think he/they are failing because of earlier successes. Eventually they'll learn the hard way general consumers are a lot different beast than early adopter/tinkerers.

Alternatively you can order domestically from Printed Solid: Original Prusa Accelerometer Set
