Core one to Core One+

Hi All - the cost of the upgrade kit to Core one + is around $16 plus freight of $60. Are there STL files and parts I can source locally - appreciate your feedback. Cheers

RE:

I was considering buying an upgrade because I don't have the PETG (and I would rather get a better print from the source) but $60 shipping?

Hell to the no!

That being said MatterHackers has Prusa parts. Though I haven't found this on their site yet.

You really don't need the C1+ enhancements if you are only printing PLA or PETG. The side filament sensor modification is only useful for very soft TPU and the vent only needs to be closed for filaments like PC, PA or ASA (amongst others). The other enhancement is a detachable filament spool.

As for the filament colors and type only the vent opener needs to be printed with a reasonably rigid high temp filament: ASA or other brands of PC will work just fine. It doesn't have to be Prusa PC-CF unless you have an OCD that requires you to have the exact same color as the other Nextruder parts. The side filament sensor can be any brand PETG (I printed my in PC Blend). Again the color is not going to matter.

Much appreciated - thank you

On reading the upgrade blogs one would question if this upgrade offers any real benefit ?????

Depends on what your use case is. Personally I like the automatic vent mod since I switch between engineering and "standard" filaments a lot. I also like the detachable spool holder. The side filament sensor switch is (in my opinion) useless. The standard TPU's can get past the sensor just fine without flipping the switch and for the much softer TPU's like TPU Air, I bypass the Bowden completely and just feed it directly into the Nextruder.

Other than the auto-vent, probably the only reason why I upgraded my printer is that I'm a completionist (to make up a word).

The main reason to upgrade is the plus sign.

More seriously, I agree with hyiger that the only meaningful improvement is the auto open and close. Never had issues feeding TPU through the side sensor. The spool holder... I found it a step back from the previous one (my spools now wobble a lot more than before)  but it's redeeming property is that it's detachable so I just designed my own spool holder to replace it.
