Core One printbed

Just wondering...  For those of us like me thinking of the MK4S -> CoreOne upgrade...  Will the print bed size change?   In other words, will the steel sheets I have work on the CoreOne?  Or will we be on the hook to get all new steel print sheets?

Anyone know?

RE: Core One printbed

According to the Blog post and launch video the Steel Sheets from the MK4(S) will work on the Core One.

The Core one bed size is 250x220

The MK4S is 250x210

Obviously the Core One has a height difference too, but that doesn't apply here.

It was said in the promo video that the MK4S>Core One conversion would leave users will a full Core One unit without any sacrifices or compromises, so I would say that although your steel sheet from the MK4s will be useable, as the Core One bed is slightly larger it will most likely come with a larger bed and sheet to accommodate. The bed heating element looks to be the same, although it will most likely attach to a re-designed frame to cater for the different Z axis configuration.

Measure your mk4s heat bed and sheet in Y.  You will find there is plenty of room for the extra 10 mm travel.  Same with Z lead screws.  There is more travel the mk4s cannot use because of the Z bearing.   The Core one can use the extra area and Z travel.

Yup - I've used larger BambuLab plates on my Prusa before without any issue. Overhangs a little but the clearance is there so works fine. Although as the bed/sheet on the Core One will be larger, I'm assuming it will come with a larger bed/plate as well as otherwise you wouldn't be able to use that extra 10mm space.

To answer the OP - yes the sheet from the MK4s will work on the Core One (but not the bed), but it will be slightly smaller footprint than the new Core One bed, so you wouldn't get that extra 10mm. Whether that makes any difference though is another matter......!

Thanks to all - I just don't want to waste the extra Prusa brand sheets I have purchased.  The satin sheet has given me zero issues compared to the one that came with the printer originally.

Hard decision will be:  upgrade and have all these 'extra' parts, or just bite the bullet and order a new Core One and be done with it.  I don't need two printers.  Then again, trying to sell my MK4S that if finally dialed in without taking too big of a price hit will be kinda hard.  I suppose this will be the dilemma many folks will have.

Hmm that's not quite my understanding (if I understand you correctly).  Aren't the current Prusa MKn bed sheets ~253 mm wide and 240 mm deep?  So there is plenty of room on the current sheets for the CORE One design to "unlock" an additional 10 mm Y (could be 5 mm on both sides I guess? I don't have my printers near me).

This is probably my only slight disappointment- I would have loved if they could do a full 250 x 250.  Since it's in Y, it seems like they might have even been able to use the existing sheets for 220 Y or getting new sheets to give the full 250 with some way to detect either size sheet.  They probably considered this and found it impractical to implement (or required even more part changes from the MK4S).

RE: Core One printbed

The MK4S sheet printable area is 250 (x) by 210 (y). It does have some extra space on the edges though (your measurements are correct), so if you overrun onto the edge an extra 10mm (outside of the default printable area) then yes it can be used on the core one. Not sure if that would be Prusa's solution though?

Guess we'll have to wait and see what comes in the conversion kit!

They're using the same sheets, from the announcement:

"The CORE One uses the same print sheets as the MK3/MK4, and also hotends, nozzles, and other proven parts from the MK4S."

RE: Core One printbed

My standard MK4 sheet(s) measure 253mm x 237mm at the thinnest point. The nozzle wipe does steal a bit of Y axis though.

Prusa slicer lets me make a rectangle exactly 250 x 210 x 220 for my MK4S without issue. It slices fine as long as I don't add .01mm any where.
