Core One NFC Status May '26
NFC Set is available. Will the Core One support it?
I bought a bunch of tags months ago only to find out they are unsupported by the printer.
RE:
Prusa is reasonably upfront in the product description -- although "these are not actually supported by our printers yet" would have been a clearer and less euphemistic way of describing the status quo. And the last sentence is outdated now; to my knowledge they did not make it in Q1 (and neither in Q2 so far).
From https://www.prusa3d.com/product/blank-openprinttag-10-nfc-tags-3/
This pack of 10 blank, writable OpenPrintTags is for advanced makers and builders who want to start experimenting with the new open standard right away.
These tags are perfect for integrating into custom printer builds (like Voron), mobile apps, developing your own filament management tools, or adding your existing spools to a smart inventory.
These are blank tags that require user setup and are not a simple plug-and-play solution at this time. We are launching these first for our community of builders and tinkerers. For a simple out-of-the-box experience, we recommend our new Prusament spools, which come with pre-loaded data.
The PRUSA.app will be able to write the data starting on 18th November 2025, and OpenPrintTag readers for Prusa printers will be available in Q1 2026.

So my question was about the NFC Set. I fell for Prusa’s deceptive marketing on the NFC tags. I don’t want get suckered again.
RE: Core One NFC Status May '26
Oh, that one has nothing to do with the OpenPrintTags I'm afraid. It is just a spare part for the passive NFC antenna which sits in the back of the Core One; has been available since Mk4S I believe. It can only interact with your phone (active NFC device), not with the passive tags.

Thanks, it wasn’t clear from the description.
Too bad it’s taking Prusa soooo long. My old printer with Octoprint had a nice filament database plugin that worked years ago.

I assume the item description for the "NFC Set" in the store predates the whole OpenPrintTag initiative. At the time this passive NFC sensing was all they had, so they did not make the distinction. Deserves a clarification now -- I have submitted one as a product review; hope Prusa will release that soon or add their own clarification to the product description.
RE:
Prusa's OpenPrintTag RFID reader (which is still in pre-production stage) will go underneath the spool holder. When a spool with an active tag is mounted it's stats: color/material/brand/remaining weight will be read. The rest is my speculation: it will attach to the CAN bus on the buddy extension board and the firmware will expose an endpoint via PrusaLink and/or send that data to PrusaConnect. PrusaSlicer will then fetch this through a sync process similar to Orca/Bambu.
FYI, except for the reader under the spool holder, I've already implemented (well the LLM has...) most of this. Stay tuned, will announce it soon.

A week later, and Prusa has not published my comment on the NFC Set. It was a completely neutral clarification that this is not for use with the OpenPrintTags. Of course, Prusa have not updated their own product description either to clarify that. Sigh...
