CORE/MMU

I'm trying to decide whether or not to purchase the CORE/MMU combination or a Bambu with their AMS.  Having had two Prusa's I'd like to stay with them.  I'm limited on space, so having MMU a separate device hurts.  Has any found a way to stack the MMU over the CORE1.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: CORE/MMU

Yes, stacking the MMU3 is possible now. There is also the 3rd party CoreBoxx solution which is better. I would ask what you intend to use the MMU3 for? Is it mult-color, multi-material or both? Prusa is soon to announce a Bontech INDX based tool-changer so you may wish to go that route instead (which is what I'm doing)

I would hold for the moment, With both named companies looking to shortly release their multi-tool solutions, you may find that these suit your style of printing better, and they'll future proof you more then the MMU3 at this stage......

Switching from Prusa to Bambu is a bit like switching from BMW to BYD... it's pretty, it works well at first... then you have to replace the Chinese bike because there's no support, no parts... But go ahead with confidence if the marketing hype seduces you.

I have the MMU but have not installed it yet. I need to overcome some issues before I do. One issue is I am trying to print the Community MMU box for the top off Printables, but I am getting later shifts and cannot complete it yet.

RE: CORE/MMU

I have MMU3 and immediately i made Rewindr system (from Ludwig Broome) since that original side-rolls storage and clumsy buffer was unacceptable for me.

However, then i decided that i need all this setup in a closed box, so i made coreboxx, too. Since i already had  rewindr I modified it a bit to fit rewindr inside, but if you buy coreboxx you have whole "rewinder" system already there, so choose either one or other. It's worth the money.

What i really like at prusa that every single part can be bought separately, from sensors, whole bed, extruder... I've had bed sensor failure in my MK3S (back then when i printed covid masks 24/7), and then it turned out how important this is. I doubt that that much is available at bambu.

RE: CORE/MMU

Respectfully disagree.

I have both the Core One and a H2D (soon to be H2C) and most of my prints now go to the H2D. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Core One too, and I'm keeping it for now, but I find the H2D so easy to use its practically fool proof. I just send my print jobs and leave it be. In fact it's stored in the outbuilding so I do everything remotely - switch on, send jobs, keep an eye on a print, then switch off and collect the print later. It's been flawless for me. What's more easier is that I have 13 colours loaded - and although I don't print much in multicolour, the fact that I have all the colours loaded and can just send jobs without having to load/unload all the time is awesome. No issues so far at all, and I can source parts quite easily too should I need any.

I feel Bambulab have established themselves very well now, and we know they aren't going anywhere for a while......

Luckily it works for you, which is great. However, i guess you missed most important part which aln-perez mentioned: the bummer is when something goes wrong... then: no support, no parts...

But, regarding:

Same here with Core One MMU: i do exactly the same, only differnce is that i have only 5 colors loaded, otherwise i send print remotely, i monitor it remotely... but when idx comes core one will have 8 colors, too.

Oh, from i read on forums: i have way less garbage when changing filaments/colors than bambu(so they say...)

Very Interesting!  I’m looking at the H2C as well.  Seems Prusa is still playing catch up, this time with the INDX vs Vortek tool changers.  What slicer do you use for the Bambu?

What I was getting at is that it comes as a complete out of the box ready package with Bambu - remote view camera etc all on as standard. And its a good camera too with a steady stream. I'm by no means saying the core one is bad - far from it - as I said, I have one and will be keeping it - but the Bambu is a better out of the box experience IMO, especially for those new to 3D Printing. They really have bought 3D Printing to the masses by catering for the beginner and casual user. But yes, you're correct, I haven't experience of Bambu support, and from what I've read I wouldn't rate it anywhere near as good as Prusa's. I hope Prusa keep that up!

I just stick to stock slicers for both. As I'm just a casual/hobbyist user, I've just stuck to PrusaSlicer and Bambu Studio - just pick a printer and then use the accompanying slicer. In my mind I feel there's less to go wrong this way! lol

I agree with you here: it's really a shame that camera is optional on core one, especially for that price (of a printer). And there are some "funny" solutions, which can easily be improved with printed parts from printables, which could, again (at least many of them) be done in the factory. Personally: MMU3 system with filaments scattered across whole table is perhaps ok for an amateur build, but absolutely not ok for a renounced company like Prusa.

But, personally, if i'd buy bambu i'd wish they had kit version. All my printers were kit versions. I love to assemble them, since in that case i exactly know how they work and if something goes wrong i know how to fix it. When buying ready-made device you don't know anything and you must turn to a  service for each and every little thing, and i hate doing that.

I disagree; it means that the majority, who have no use for a camera, can save a few pennies.

I think it should have been included with the main printer in the first instance, considering we are literally talking pennies anyways - and especially considering Prusa do not spend more to make it look pretty either!

You wanna save pennies at 1500€ worth printer? Man, you're not looking to the right printer... Aliexpress and appr. 250€ priced cheap china clones are the ones for you in that case.

You could always paint it - or at this time of year add tinsel and a few baubles.

Not really, but I don't like waste and I have no use for a camera - I did fit one to my Mk3 via Octoprint a few years ago but removed it after a week as it wasn't doing anything useful, a solution to a problem that didn't exist.

RE: CORE/MMU

Bambu also has camera by default. So according to your wishes is also a no-go printer…?
Camera is extremly usefull when you stop “just playing” with your printer and start to print “serious” things, then occasional monitoring if all is ok is a must. You can easily look via camera without the need to physically go to the printer.

RE: CORE/MMU

I find the camera incredibly useful, considering my printer is in an outbuilding. I start up (via smart plug) and send the print job remotely, and then use the camera to periodically check to ensure all is well. The stream is smooth and of a high quality. Once done I can use the app to check everything has cooled and then switch the printer off to save power. This way I don't have to keep venturing out through the cold garden to check on the print - call it laziness if you like! lol

On the other hand, my Core One stays inside the house and is used for smaller prints that don't need to carry on overnight. I'm not paying more for a camera (delivery costs are huge) so it has to stay where I can easily see it instead! I do like the Prusa multicolour systems though - MMU always worked perfect for me on the MK4s, albeit a great space taker - and I think the INDX system will be awesome too. Just would be ideal if theye didnt skimp on the cheap parts - or find some cheaper courier services!
