Change order from 'MK4S to CORE One upgrade' to 'CORE One' Kit
Hi,
Today, after a couple of weeks of thinking, I decided to change my original order from "MK4S to CORE One" to a standard "CORE One" kit.
There are several reasons, but I was influenced by the MK3S upgrade experience.
My MK3.5 REVO +MMU3 which is close to the MK4S, was an upgrade path from the MK3S. The MK3S had already been on the market for a few years, so an upgrade would have been advisable to prevent it from becoming too obsolete. At that time, I had also originally ordered the full MK3.9/MK4 kit, but I realized that I would have to throw away a lot of parts, especially the REVO ecosystem that I didn't want to lose. Also, the cost of the full upgrade was too high. So I limited the upgrade to the MK3.5, because I could have the speed which was all I really wanted, and I could extend the life of the printer, since the board and electronics were state of the art PRUSA, so for a few years to come, they would definitely be supported. Besides keeping the old MK3S extruder with REVO, I was comfortable continuing to use all my REVO nozzles (which were just too expensive to throw away and replace with a Nextruder) and the MMU3 as usual.
Now with the MK4S the situation is different.
I realized that when I have to upgrade the MK4S, I will put a lot of parts in a box because the CORE One is actually a different model of printer. I have my MK4S (from the kit) that I assembled, which works perfectly without a single problem; it is silent, I can use it even late at night. And because it is completely open, when I printed here in hot summer (e.g. 32°C only in my room... 😓 ), it never created any PLA printing problems. I never encountered any of the problems that many people have, like corrupted gcode prints or LCD crash issues. So I was very reluctant to destroy everything. What will happen when I print PLA enclosed in a box in a 32° room? Even with the door open it will probably be 43° or more in the printer... 😲
Moreover the MK4S is not an obsolete model.
In reality I want also a COREXY printer. So the CORE One is an addition and not a substitution. I will have then two bed slinger, the CORE One (CoreXY), and the FLSUN V400 (Delta). 😀
So, for these reasons I decided to convert the order to a full CORE One kit. This will ensure that I get the real CORE One (I never understood if the MK3.9 update was really a 100% identical MK4 or a different slide printer with different bar sizes, different frames without the hex...). Also I will keep my fully functional MK4S all the time, so in case of any issues, I will still have a fully functional MK4S.
My only concern is that I don't know where to put the CORE One at the moment. I don't have any more space at home... 😣 I'll have to get creative. 😉
I placed my original CORE One upgrade order 3 minutes after opening the order and asked PRUSA if changing the order would change the shipping priority. They explained that the order creation determines the priority, so there is no problem changing the order content, so I changed my order.
Now I will wait for my March timeline (no idea when, probably end of March) to receive the kit.
Kind regards

Hi Antimix,
Haha, yeah I 100% follow your logic and completely understand that your heart can't imagine tearing apart an MK4S that's working flawlessly. I'm on the other side of that bridge; I ordered the Core-One upgrade kit, yes my MK4S is rock-solid too and I love it, but if I can upgrade that unit, eliminate the bed-slinging (y-axis) and have the built in heat chamber at the same time, sign me up. This is 100% based on my experience with the Prusa XL core-xy printer. Good luck with your Core-One build, the Prusa kits are always a fun rewarding experience.

I'm probably going to cancel my upgrade order as it occurs to me I'm not really going to gain anything in my use case that warrants stripping down my Mk4S. I've only used PLA and PETG types of filament and I don't see that changing any time soon. I think I'm gonna forgo the draw of the shiny new object and remain in the realm of bed slinging 🙂
I have been using more than one colour a lot more recently, which is a bit of a faff and only really viable as whole layers when done manually so my money may end up being directed to the MMU3 instead.

I also have a perfect working MK4s, complete with MMU3. All seems to work flawlessly.
I also have a BambuLab A1 next to it.
Hence I also have no space for a Core One - but I still want a Core One kit to build rather than to upgrade the MK4s. My thinking is I'll have to put the core one on my computer desk or something for now. I'll then tinker with it - eventually move the MMU3 over to it once supported, and once I'm happy I'll revert the MK4s back to a stock non-MMU3 printer and sell it on.....

I don't know what the vertical space is in your "shop", but maybe put the MK4S on top of the CORE One? 😉
