Improvements

  • After running input shaper and phase stepping calibration, subjectively printer seems quieter.

Question:   Is it needed to run input shaper and phase stepper calibration after a firmware upgrade, or were you simply curious?  I am trying to learn the normal recommended process after each firmware update.

Thanks!

In this case, running the input shaper is necessary since there was (apparently) a long standing bug that had X and Y swapped.  Noise reduction is a function of phase stepping calibration. With the input shaping there is an obvious improvement with a print that once exhibited ringing and ghosting now that it's been fixed. With the phase stepping I don't have anything quantitive (like a before/after DB reading) to compare it too. It just "seems" quieter.

I suppose one could just make two prints, one with the numbers as-is and one with them swapped. Should work with old or new revision.

I'd say normally its not needed to re-run IS and PS calibration, in this instance its 100% required as the X/Y values were reversed, and have now been corrected.
If there are any future changes in IS/PS logic then re-run the calibration also.
