Bubbles on Smooth PEI Print Sheet after 3 prints?

Brand new Core ONE, 3 three prints in, and the Smooth PEI Print Sheet already looks damaged.

I really hope there’s a protective plastic film on it that I’ve somehow missed. Please check the attached pictures and let me know if this is normal.

So far, I’ve printed two shelf supports with Prusament Galaxy Black, a few small items like key tags using the same filament, and a phone stand with PLA Filamentum Melon Yellow. After about four hours of printing, I noticed bubbles and two large deformations forming beneath what seems to be a thin plastic layer on the sheet.

Considering the previous issues I’ve had with this printer, I can’t say I’m surprised anymore.I contacted support, and they said it’s normal (really?) and that it shouldn’t affect the prints… hopefully.

The Prusament Galaxy Black, was that PLA or PETG? If PETG then it can cause this kind of damage pulling it off the sheet.

It was PLA.

I’ve only printed PLA so far, at the moment I don’t find the Core One to be very reliable so not printing anything important, only tests. I’m aware that PLA parts should be allowed to cool down below 30–35°C before removing them from the PEI sheet.

Unless you can feel the "bubbles" on the surface of the sheet I wouldn't be too concerned.  I have had similar experiences with the smooth PEI sheets depending upon model being printed.  In my experience these "bubbles" are just a visual artifact and will likely fade away again over time.  While it is indeed possible to damage the PEI sheets by removing parts too quickly (or using materials that bond too well to the smooth surface) in over 3000 hours of printing I've never damaged one.

Steve

Please check the pictures, there are noticeable bumps where the bubbles were, and I can clearly feel them with my fingers. I flipped the sheet over, as the support technician advised, and left it for a week to let the bubbles disappear. Unfortunately, the deformations are still there.

I have noticed too that the PEI print sheets delaminate very easily. I used the sheet that came with my MK3S kit for 5 years. But my last two only lasted for months. I noticed that on that newer print sheet, very quickly tiny specs started to appear, which I could only explain as delamination of the PEI layer. It wasn't a problem though, because the sheet was still smooth and it stopped getting worse at some point. But the old print sheet that came with the printer didn't have this issue. Two weeks ago I destroyed that new sheet printing PCCF without glue or anything (my mistake).

I got a new sheet a week ago and literally on my first print it delaminated in the same manner as your sheet when I took my print off. But this time it was with PLA, (Colorfabb High Speed Pro to be precise). To me it seems the newer PEI print sheets don't have the quality they used to have.

So I'm gonna use an adhesive (glue stick or magigoo) on every print from now on. Just to keep my print sheets in one piece.

This is the only sheet I use BIQU CryoGrip Pro Buildplate for pretty much everything now and it's on sale for $19 USD. I can't recommend it enough. I don't even need to clean it between prints.
