White LED Strip

I’ve just received the white LED strip for my Original Prusa Enclosure, and I must say that I am disappointed. Perhaps I didn’t read the specs carefully enough when I ordered it.

Installation is very fiddly: you have to take the printer out of the enclosure.

The controller has mechanical on/off buttons on the board, and I was hoping, ultimately, to switch the lights on and off  digitally.

The PSU is rated at 65W (24V, 2.71A). I have a Hue LED strip (2m long, RGB) which runs quite happily with 16W (24V, 0.67A).

I have no doubt the LED strip works within its parameters, but it don’t think I’ll bother installing it.

I have the same feelings. I did read that it is RGB capable (I thought it was anyway when I ordered) but another module will need to be purchased.

It looks to be a high quality LED bar but like you I'm a bit dissapointed and really wish it was controllable remotely. Auto-On/Off at least.

I just happen to have an old Hue LED strip that I took out of something else, and I'm going to install that instead. They only cost CHF 69 for 200mm in Switzerland, so they are a viable alternative to the Prusa offering (EUR 66), though it needs some extra material for mounting.

I remember seeing something where the lights could turn green at the end of a print, red if there is an error, etc. And also that an extra controller would be required. My guess, there is a MK4S coming out with a 32-bit board that will run all of that.

Hi Stephen,

just out of curiosity - when did you order the lightstrip?

I ordered mine (+ multiple other add ons) in May and still prusa did not bother to consider delivering....(whilst happily taking my money 6+ months ago)

I ordered it with my enclosure back on 10th May. The add-ons (including the LED kit) were eventually delivered on 29th November. If you contact the Prusa chat they will be able to tell you the current status of your order.

It occurs to me in the meantime that this is an unfair criticism since the PSU is apparently intended to power other add-ons in the enclosure too (so not just the LED).

The multi color feature and automatic control is all part of a future product they discussed in coordination with the smart controller. The early kit with just white LED is a simple on/off single color unit.

I just wish the bracket for mounting the PSU was pre-printed so it could be mounted right away.

I'm planning to reuse my existing LED strips. They are 24V, so should work directly with the controller (if I can only find time to start the assembly... 😟)

I have found a solution, one more time not with the Prusa Help !

If you have a soldering iron with a very small tip, simply connect pins 3 t0 6 of the FGW297 circuit. See photo. The LED light will come on as soon as the Prusa is powered up.

Just get a https://www.amazon.com/DC12-24V-Changing-Controller-Wireless-Synchronization/dp/B08CR5WY5X  or equivalent controller and let smartlife, alexa, or tuya control it remotely.   And use newer RGBCCT, RGBW, or COB lights.
