Strange seam issues/artifacts on only 1 tool on 2-tool Prusa XL

I'm having an issue with my Prusa XL 2 tool that I can't figure out.

The issue is that the toolheads are printing with different quality and especially different behavior at seams, and it's very strange. In this last print, I was able to determine that the issue is really with Tool 1 as it was the first time I used the Spool Join functionality as I didn't have enough filament on the spool for Tool 2 (which started the print) so I had it join with Tool 1. You can clearly see where it switched (including the unsightly line at the switch).

Issues:

  • Sheen difference
    • Tool 2 is clearly printing more slowly (or maybe hotter) as the printed part is shinier than where Tool 1 took over (using the same material).
  • Seam difference
    • The larger issue is that there is a strange issue at the seams but only for Tool 1. Tool 2's seams look perfect, while Tool 1's seams have this weird artifact. I can't tell if that's an issue with scarf seams being uncalibrated or if it's something else -- but either way it doesn't make sense that Tool 1 would be the only one doing it.

See the images -I added arrows and text to clarify. Look at the seams and let me know if I need to clarify further.

doesn't seem like the tools would move at different speeds, my guess is its a temp thing, and possibly a variation in the actual filament diameter on the new spool?  It appears over extruded...

Definitely looks like underextrusion due to temperature on tool 1, that's a very distinctive pattern on the corners.

Check with the same filament roll on each tool head, and see if you get the same difference in quality as you're seeing above. That will eliminate any variance with different spool behavior.

If you actually are seeing the difference on the same filament, then you should check your heater block assembly on tool 1. It might not even be a thermistor problem at all -- check your nozzle tightness in the heater block, as well as the heater core grub screw tightness.
