Support failing

I woke up this morning to a partially failed 16 hr print.  It appears that part of the support material started to collapse at some point.  the print (kind of) finished but I am not sure what happened to cause this.  You can tell in the one photo that the support material started to buckle and then just became string.  It appears that the support that failed was on the bed and the support that was on the part worked as expected.  I did find a better way to print this part but wondering what could have caused this.  I searched a bit but didnt find anything

RE: Support failing

Rotate your support 90 degrees or change to honeycomb.

You had impossibly long run of support. It's only on extrusion thick.

RE: Support failing

If you wanted to speed it up.

Go for

interface supports, Organic type, from build plate only.

RE: Support failing

I was going to try organic supports and see if that helped.  I guess I assumed that the slicer determined the best direction for the supports.  Learn something every day...
