Not bad enough we are being abandoned....I love having my XL dissed by Prusa

Straight of their website about the IDX.

Filament-switchers can be slow and wasteful, while full toolchangers mean swapping heavy, expensive print heads.

Gotta tell you...kinda feeling I won't be buying another printer from you ever.

Settle down. To be honest they aren't wrong, but the XL was the best technology at the time. Using your argument every MMU owner should say FU Prusa. Why didn't you give us this instead of the kludgey MMU! Until something new is available, it doesn't exist.

I won't be upset if there is some kind of upgrade path, like every other Prusa I've owned.

But if they abandon the XL platform entirely they'll lose me too

Head swaps are still faster than INDX - and did you notice the two new toolheads for the XL?

Cheerio,

lol.  Ok.   What's the second toolhead?   Not showing up in a search but regardless, the only one I am aware of is third party created, not Prusa created.  It's niche and $1000.

And the speed difference is only for that small, loud group of speed obsessed users.

Perhaps I should rephrase I won't gamble with Prusa ever again.

Past that, I'm telling anyone else what to do.

What's the second toolhead?

Pick and place.

the only one I am aware of is third party created, not Prusa created. It's niche and $1000.

Niche?  A whole new realm of engineering manufacture with high temperature, flexible materials is not exactly niche - I foresee a huge range of applications for light engineering especially for things like seals, gaskets, shock absorbers and even domestic objects like straps, shoes, or even fishing lures.

And there will be UV setting gels with all the properties of resin prints, possibly conductive gel inks and even foodstuffs...

$1000 is very cheap for that sort of upgrade.

Maybe a few trinket printers will sell their XLs to local workshops who will find them invaluable.

Cheerio,

Purchasing a tool to perform a job isn't gambling. You want a smaller print bead and limited multilateral/toolhead options? Buy an INDX Core One+ and sell your XL. What Prusa said is exactly right, toolchangers mean swapping heavy, expensive print heads. You didn't think about that before you bought yours? You didn't notice how expensive the XL was and stop to ask, why?

NO ONE is dissing you, so again, settle down.

The silicone toolhead is useful to about fifty people worldwide.

Apparently there’s enough interest to design, manufacture, and sell.

Side question what additional tool are you waiting for?

I'd like a proper high temp tool with a proper enclosure. I'd like half INDX and half Nextruder, or frankly, some nozzle brushes or literally any other upgrade on a printer most of us have had for about 18 months. We could already make silicone parts, via molds. Been doing that for a long time.

This!! There hasn't been a single user improvement to this printer since its launch. I shouldn't have to make my own nozzle wipers or code their use. Or figure out a way to power the camera. It's ridiculous.

I'm about ready to join an XL support group if there is such a thing. This printer has forced me to become a 3D printing enthusiast, which is in equal parts an endorsement and a criticism. Long story short:

Even though it looked sparse and industrial, we passed on other printers, and got this, for its size, and toolheads, and support. We do mainly architectural prints.

Our experience with the XL has been mixed, we are repairing it now with a bunch of replacement parts, because its been making a screaming noise. The support process was laborious to say the least, but Prusa's team is very helpful, and in short, I feel like we paid 4-5K for an education AND a big multicolor fast printer that doesn't require a purge tower.

For us, our XL is like an old-time John Deere, and we have become a little like farmers who spend the occasional weekend figuring out why its not working. I got way more done with my old Bambu A1, but the XL has challenged me to learn how 3D printing actually works, and I think in 2026 it'll pay off (it better)

All of this can be argued I suppose, these tool heads are serious business though, and what this guy has done with them gives me hope that the XL has a future:

Don't get me wrong, it's a great printer. It has given me very few problems over thousands of hours of printing, and I feel like it's only my imagination and design skills  that hold me back. But they could actually try to support it with basic upgrades and ease of use tweaks.
