Unremovable supports
I had to use supports for this print, which is a segment of what will be a much larger print. As you can see, I have been trying to remove the supports but they are unremovable. I was able to break off some pieces but I can’t open the hole.
The pictures show the front and back of the piece.
The third picture is the post-slicing screenshot of the piece in Prusa Slicer 2.7.1.
What I want to understand is what I need to do to get removable supports like I got with my MK3s. I could use it to print this piece, but I need the build volume of the XL for the final print and I need to have this working on the XL as lots of other supports will be needed.
Details: Prusa XL, 0.6mm nozzle, standard defaults, slicer 2.7.1, latest printer firmware flashed 5.1.2, PLA, 215°C extruder, 60°C bed. First time using supports on the XL.
RE: Unremovable supports
I can't speak for the XL but if you have troubles removing supports, the question is what the z-distance setting ist between supports and supported object. 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm or something else? If it is less than 0.2 mm I would set it to that value, if that is not enough, maxybe try 0.25 or 0.3 mm.
Also, you can give organic/tree supports a change, they should be easier to remove in general.
Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4
RE: Unremovable supports
Those supports were generated with Grid type. Which is the oldest and worst type. Besides the z contact distance mentioned I would change that to Snug at least (if you arent trying Organic). Also its probably worth checking what the support xy separation distance is also configured for.
Might be best to just save your Prusa Slicer project file (File>Save As) and then zip up the 3mf produced and attach it here. That way people can check all of the settings without asking 20 questions.
RE: Unremovable supports
Thanks. I just got to bed, will check it on Friday if I have time, otherwise will check it Saturday. Thanks for the 3mf info, will do that the next time I have a question.
RE: Unremovable supports
You are posting in the XL Multi Tool part of the forum. So I expect that you have a Multi Tool XL. If so I'd suggest to use PETG for supports on PLA parts and vice versa. There are some threads about that in the forum too. You'll be surprised how well that works!
