Will an ultrasonic cleaner damage the print bed?

Hi 😊 , I don't have the CW1 yet, so I'm using an ultrasonic cleaner.

  1. I'm wondering if I can simply dunk the whole print bed with print in the ultra sonic cleaner?
  2. I wonder if the print will automatically come off the print bed?
  3. Would the print bed or print bed paint/surface be damaged?
  4. Anyone tried this before?

+1

Also interested in any info about the VAT/Tank to be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath (with water and dishwash).

Any experiences shared, appreciated.

Don‘t worry about the print bed: this is anodized aluminium and will not be damaged by an ultrasonc cleaner containg IMS or ethanol nor any other mild solvents.

Thanks.

I'm using methylated spirits (denatured alcohol) as the cleaning liquid.

It's 25% the cost of the recommended 3D print resin cleaning IPA (isopropyl alcohol).

My experience with denatured alcohol is that it leaves a thin white film after evaporation - properly the additives to make it undrinkable. Do you wash in water to avoid that film?

Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

I'm using denaturated alcohol (ethanol / methilated spirits) too and can sometimes find white spots on my casts after washing. But this mainly happens when I let the alcohol evaporate. When blowing it off with air (airbrush pistol) this will not happen.

Some resins seem more prone to the white spots, others less: The Prusa Tough Gray resin doesn't show any white marks at all, even when I let the alcohol evaporate. The transparent resin is more delicate.

Give the parts a final rinse in clean alcohol and keep water off the prints. The alcohol/resin mix combined with water produces a whitish slurry. This is what probably happens

@m-neeser

I will try denaturated alcohol as this is a lot cheaper and more easy to come by. Maybe a first clean dip in denaturated alcohol to clean for uncured resin and then a final bath in isopropyl to clean off denaturated alcohol before drying. That would make the expensive isopropyl alcohol last 😀
