Must needed tools and parts for Resin Printers

I just bought my first Resin printer.  I want an SL1S but I needed a cheap on to learn on.  I bought the new Anycubic Photon Ultra.  What parts and tools do I need to buy?

For my SL1 I also ordered the following:

  • Extra build plate so I could start the next print before dealing with the last one. I actually have ended up doing that all of once and found it too much hassle.
  • Extra tank so I could swap between resins without emptying/cleaning the tank. Have done it a few times, but I've found I stick to one resin for the most part.
  • Extra LCD so that I would have it on hand already when I needed to replace it.

For tools I have:

  • CW1 for curing and washing.
  • Small 401nm UV flashlight to help safe my work area and tools.
  • 300w 401nm UV array that I use to safe all my disposables (gloves, paper towels, cotton pads, etc..) before tossing them.
  • Metal spatula to help get parts off the plate.
  • Large plastic air tight food container to hold water for post IPA rinse/clean.
  • Toothbrush to get scrubby in the water bath when needed.
  • Cotton face pads to use when cleaning the vat and wiping off the platform.
  • A small bottle of 99% IPA to use for cleaning purposes.
  • Meangreen in a spray bottle that I use for cleaning my platform and tools.
  • Nitrle gloves.
  • UV glasses that filter the 401nm spectrum for when I'm working with the flashlight or array.
  • Paper towels.

stupid forum software...

I have an email notification saying someone asked the following, but I can't actually see it here on the forum...

Why is the flashlight, etc 401nm when the resin is 405nm?

Because I'm an idiot and typo'd it. 405nm is correct. Of course now the forum won't let me fix the original post 🙄

That was me...

I asked that question and then I thought perhaps the Anycubic used a different resin so I deleted it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Good info

Thanks.  I full intend to buy a Prusa, but I need to evaluate my need and skills on a cheaper printer.

Thanks.  I full intend to buy a Prusa, but I need to evaluate my need and skills on a cheaper printer.

Due to PrusaSlicer, I think the SL1 is much easier (almost to the point and click level) than the cheaper printers. My feelings on the SL1 and Prusa are well documented, but they definitely made the usability stand out against the cheaper options.

As easy as SLA printing is compared to FDM (learning orientation and supports is where the magic really is and that is printer agnostic) I don't think "skills" are a reason to consider one vs another. The "need", however, is very important. A cheaper printer that you rarely use is easier to swallow than an unused SL1S.

I had grand plans on all the printing I was going to do, but then I found I hate dealing with the post processing and cleanup. I also found that I was printing much faster than I had hope of catching up with all the painting. So now I rarely use it as there is a lot of "is it really worth it" consideration.

Long lead time

You might already be aware that there is a long wait for the SL1S. I ordered the bundle with the printer and washer at the end of August and they have not shipped. Judging by what others have posted, it could be another month. I considered getting an Elegoo in the meantime, but decided against it. What with designing sculpts, printing on the MK3S+ and airbrushing the prints I have plenty of fun stuff to do.

Aware

I am aware and hence the reason I am not really concerned about waiting.
