Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

I just upgraded my MK3S+ to MK3.5 and really love the 3.5.  That said, looking at all the features of the MK4 I think I made a mistake and should have gone directly from the MK3S+to the MK4.   Prusa support tells me there is no guaranteed MK3.5 to MK4 path so I am wondering if anyone has considered doing this upgrade on their own?

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

Same story at my side. I bought an almost unused MK3S+ cheap and upgraded  to 3.5 and only later realized Nextruder would have been just more nice. Send an email request to support and quickly found out that Prusa has no intention to sell the Nextruder interior gear parts separately . You will not find it in any spare parts list even of Mk4. Only hottend , love board , heat block , nozzle. As I have also a MK4 and next week a XL 5-head to come it is only tinkering but would be fun nevertheless, the nextruder is convenience but if the Z is adjusted accurately the Mk3.5 will provide prints in the same quality as MK3.9, maybe only with TPU Nextruder will be better.

Cheers Reinhold

I feel the same way, I would also like to upgrade from MK3.5 to 3.9 because I believe that both the firmware and the PrusaSlicer support the MK3.9 much better than the MK3.5. In my experience, the adaptation to the MK3.5 is both patchy and a bit of a hassle. (e.g. BedLeveling etc.)

It would be nice to have the possibility to further upgrade from MK3.5 to MK3.9. I've done upgrade to MK3.5 and after that upgraded the Y and Z axis to MK4 specs. The only nice to have thing would be upgrade to nextruder.

I contacted prusa about upgrading from MK3.5 to MK4 and was informed that it would be cheaper to buy a MK4 kit as it would be cheaper.

The more users request support about this, the more Prusa focuses on it. So demand strong support.

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

I bought an MK4 due to the cost of the MK3S+ to MK4 kit being so close in price. I just did the upgraded to 3.5 on the 3S+. Add me to the list of people who would now like to purchase an MK3.5 to MK3.9 upgrade.

RE:

I too have contacted customer support regarding an upgrade kit for a 3.5.  As kits to upgrade the 3s+ to 3.5, 3.9 and 4 are in stock ( according to the website) I suggested that they take a 3.9 or mk4 upgrade kit and just remove the parts that are in the 3.5 kit and send me the rest.  not possible according to customer support.  however I could always buy a 3.9 or mk4 upgrade kit and use the left over parts as spares!!!!. In other words I would be left with the equivalent of a complete 3.5 upgrade kit.

very disappointed,  I thought Prusa prided themselves on the upgradable of their machines.

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

again, I wrote to the support today :

Now we are 4 weeks later.

What happened in the meantime?

Is the upgrade from MK3.5 to MK3.9 or MK4 now available?

Or am I forced to sell the MK3.5? I would be very disappointed about that.

In that case, I would have a hard time thinking about buying a Prusa printer again.

In accordance with the company's previous philosophy of generally offering update paths for older printer series, an upgrade from the MK3.5 to MK3.9 or MK4 should also be offered for the MK3.5 as quickly as possible.

You can see from both the Prusa forum and other channels that many users are dissatisfied with the current situation, also because they are sometimes brushed off carelessly by support.

It would be kind if you could bring the matter closer to your management again.

Best Regards

Your request to share this matter with our management was already shared last Friday.

It's possible to have an upgrade kit from 3.5 to 3.9, but nothing confirmed yet.

Thank you for your suggestions, they are always very important to us.

Best regards,

Customer Support

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

After a lot of emails with customer services they suggested I asked for a quote via the online quote system. After some difficulty getting across to them i wanted a mk 3.5 to mk 3.9 kit and sending them pictures of my mk 3.5 I finally got the, nope dont do a kit for that and cant quote you for the individual parts. However if you would like to buy a mk3s+ to a mk3.9 then that's no problem.

I get the feeling that the mk3.5 is a dead end. I wonder how long they will keep up support for it as they seemed to have already abandoned it and the owners.

I love the way they say "Thank you for your suggestions, they are always very important to us." and then do nothing

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

I see they have recently added a 3.9/4 spare parts bundle https://www.prusa3d.com/en/product/spare-parts-bundle-mk4/ which seems to include a great proportion of what would be required to upgrade to a 3.9 from 3.5. Except for printable parts.

I wonder what else it would require, as the price is pretty tempting. If they don't end up offereing an actual 3.5 to 3.9 kit I might try and achieve the upgrade via this route.

Or maybe I am missing something?

RE: Upgrade path from MK3.5 to MK4

@ d_c_h_w: It would have been nice. The most important part is not included in the spare pack (I didn't expect it at that price). The complete Nextruder assembly! You can't get it separately as a spare part either! So that way doesn't work either. Unfortunately !
