RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito

I think that using a Bondtech with Mosquito Magnum is not solved yet. If it is working I will switch one printer to the Bondtech.

Hi guys, as I understood now some of you were able to make the 3.5 running with a mosquito hotend, right? But is it also possible to heat up the hotend >300°C? I have my 3S+ running with that combination and I print PPS with it. The Upgrade to 3.5 makes sense, but only if I can raise the temperature in the firmware.

What is not solved about it? I have no issues with it.

Bondtech lgx stepper current is worries me a little. Does mk3.5 produce current of 0,65 RMS as recommended for the Bondtech lgx?

I've posted here multiple times of it working with the changed settings. Please read through the thread.

Hi, I was also not really able to follow your solution. Can you explain a little bit more detailed? And are you able to print with temperatures above 300°C?

There is a post on the previous page that contains how Bondtech recommends to set the printer for their extruder with mosquito hot end. Also this thread is not for the lgx!!

The highest nozzle temp you can set for preheating is 290C. I'm not in the position to check if you can set a higher temp in the slicer.

Yup, looks like those recommendations came from what I did initially. I don't think anyone else attempted to add the bondtech extruder as quick as I did.

Very well possible that it came from you. I know they read this thread.

I was looking around when I was trying to decide if the upgrade with this setup was viable and did not find any other place with usable information. I went with this upgrade only because you put in the effort to try and shared your findings. And I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one.

So thank you for doing and sharing your work!

The upgrade is gone well. When I read true the posts I see a few different parameters

z 205 and 206

e 815 end 830

witch is correct?

If I remember correctly I went down from 210 in 1mm steps and the test passed at 205. Try 206 first for z length. If it passes you're good to go. If doesn't, go to 205.

For e-steps 815 works just fine for me. In theory it should under extrude compared to 830 but I see no sign of any under extrusion on my prints. Try both and see which one gives you a better print. You can always change it.

Thanks, I am printing the first good old Benshy.

The Z is now 205. When I move the z to 205 I do not touch the screws in the top.

It is finished. I used a Z =205 and E=830.

I tested it with a little Benchy. I am a happy camper 🙂

Now I will sell the Revo here in Holland. The Revo is pretty good but I more happy with the BondTech with Mosquito Magnum.

My congratulations, but I am thinking to try Bondtech lgx + Revo micro. I think it should work too, but need to modify the carriage.

Hello, on my Prusa MK3.5 with mosquito hotend and Bondtech extruder I'm using this values at 250º (the temp. is very stable):

// Mosquito MK3.5

#define DEFAULT_Kp 18.0

#define DEFAULT_Ki 2.0

#define DEFAULT_Kd 57.0

RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito

So i am also finished with the upgrade. Its now a BEAR LGX-SC MK3.5s with nylock mod.

I did a e-step calibration. Now i use 844 esteps. Z-heigh is also stock (211mm) because i lowerd the heatbed with the nylock mod.

I contacted again Bontech support a month ago, because of compatibility. Thats the answer:

The Shortcut is mostly compatible with the MK3.5.

We currently have no written instruction, but I will do my best to explain it here.  In the custom firmware for MK3s, we adjust the loading distance and reduce the Y-Max by 3mm to avoid hitting the bed cables.Y-Max can be set in the slicer, but we cannot change the loading distance. So, if you auto-load filament, the motor might stall for a sec because it’s loading too much filament too quickly.

 To use the Shortcut with MK3.5: Flash stock Prusa firmware, go to the experimental menu and set:

Estep = 800

Z height Max = 209

The PINDA probe offset can be set with M851 Y12.00 using pronterface or .gcode, make sure to save with M500.  You may have to run a PID calibration to get stable temperature.

But I recognized that it’s not possible to save it with M500 to EEPROM. After a restart, the setting is gone. I wrote another mail to bondtech and now i am waiting for the answer.

RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito

Hey again.

I asked Bondtech again because if this:

I could not set the PINDA probe offset to Y12.00 as recommended because I cannot save this permanently as the firmware does not allow this.

I also have problems loading and unloading filaments. Because the feed length and speed cannot be set, in my case this often leads to blockages. This can often only be fixed by disassembling the extruder. So not something you can be happy with.

Thats the answer from Bondtech:

As mentioned in our previous conversation, the load distance cannot be adjusted unless changing it in the firmware.

Fortunately the LGX Lever make the filament swap fast, I always do manual load / unloads as I find it faster.

Your right about not being able to save to the eeprom, I forgot about that. I recommend to add the line in the start .gcode before homing.
