RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I set the new e-steps in the buddy board. I followed these instructions to open the experimental menu.
I used pronterface to check the micro steps setting. Micro steps were 32 for the extruder so I chose 800, per Bondtech's recommendation. 800 was the recommendation for the LGX, I'm sure Bondtech has recommended settings for whichever extruder you have.
I calibrated e-steps and 800 was dead on.
RE:
It's all a little bit confusing. I have a two machines with the BMG extruder. BMG together with Mosquito Magnum.
Is changing the e-steps value enough? If this is the case I will order the upgrade.
Chris
RE:
Yeah I'm confused as well a little bit 😂 I'm having "LGX Shortcut Copperhead" and it should also work with just updating e-steps even with new board? It was said LGX is different from other Bondtech here but not sure what to take from it... Thanks in advance!
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Changing the e-steps is the only thing I've done. I'm running the stock 5.2 firmware from Prusa. I have the LGX so I can't say it will be the same with the BMG.
According to this from Bondtech the e-steps are slghtly different for the BMG (415/ 830 on the BMG, 400/800 LGX). See the Technical Specification tab for details.

RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Hi everybody,
I was not aware of this discussion so went to Bondtech and asked them about the mk3.5 upgrade with BMG and Mosquito Magnum. This is the reply I received:
"Apart form Estep we are also adjusting a few other things like the Z height. We are considered doing custom firmware updates for the MK3.5. The problem is that Prusa have put in an appendix on the buddy board that you physically have to break in order to flash this board with new custom firmware. This will void the warranty and naturally not everyone is keen on doing this. If enough people still are interested we may still have it as an option, but its a lot of work to make and maintain 25 version of new firmware if not enough people wants to use it."
I am personally not worried about losing warranty. Getting twice the speed is a VERY compelling argument. With the lighter x carriage it could be even more.
The main thing is they are willing to create the firmware if enough people want it. We just need to let them know.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
How do I change the Z_Max__Pos? If I am correct you have to change the source code and compile the firmware. The e step can be done with a few gcode’s commands.

Any particular place where we should shout we want it?
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Very similar to what they told me. Once I upgrade my printer, I will post my result to this thread. My goal is to not void my warantee.

Are you gone change the firmware and compile it?
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
No. I am going to try to use PS to make adjustments.

Here, you can change e-steps as well.

RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Who has it all running with bondtech and a mosquito?
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I have it up. Haven't printed much bc I botched the heated thermistor but here's what i have.
- Hotend test will not pass
- Z Axis did not pass, my fix was to go to settings > long press hardware and change the z height to 208. The Z Axis passed after that.
- E-Steps were changed to 800. I need to tinker with this.
Benchy bottom printed great.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
Hey means Prusa slicer. But I don't think it's possible there since it a machine limit written into the firmware. My post above fixes the issue.
RE: MK3.5 Bondtech Extruder & Mosquito
I am about 20% complete on the upgrade.
