MMU3 for MK3S+ or MK4--Is there a difference?

If you go to the shipping information page, it will say:

The orders of the MMU3 for MK3S/+ and the shipping are scheduled for the week of July 17th. MMU2->MMU3 upgrade kits will be available for order in August.

MMU3 for the MK4 is in the testing process and should be available in August.

This leads me to believe that there's a difference between the MMU3 for the MK3S+ and the MK4.

I have the MK3S+ that was originally an MK3, upgraded to the 3S, then to the 3S+, and an MMU2.  I plan on upgrading my MK3S+ to an MK4 at some point in the future. If I upgrade the MMU2 to an MMU3 for the MK3S+, will that be the same MMU3 that I would use on the MK4?

I know it sounds like a stupid question, and it probably is. I just want to be sure that I'm not spending about US$100 to upgrade my MMU2 only to not have it work with my printer after I upgrade to the MK4.

Thank you!

Hi guys, let me try to clarify this, the difference between MK3S+ and MK4 is in:

- power/data cable which powers the MMU3 unit

- printed and mechanical parts for the extruder

These packages "MMU3 MK3S+ parts" or "MMU3 MK4 parts" are added to the MMU3 package based on your order. In case you will buy the MK3S+ MMU3 version now and later get the MK4 printer, you will need to buy just the "MMU3 MK4 parts" package, which will be available at our e-shop.

The MMU3 unit, buffer and spool holders were designed to be compatible with our printers, so you can keep your multi-material even if you upgrade your printer.

According to the shipping information you mentioned, the MMU3 for the MK3S/+ is scheduled for the week of July 17th, while the MMU3 for the MK4 is still in the testing process and should be available in August. This suggests that there might be some differences between the two versions.

To be absolutely certain about compatibility, I would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer or checking their official documentation. They will have the most accurate and up-to-date information on compatibility between the MMU3 and different printer models, including the MK3S+ and the MK4. They can provide you with specific details and guidance on whether the MMU3 for the MK3S+ will work with the MK4 after you upgrade.

I suspect that the Mk4 data and power cables will be different because the mk4 mainboard is different to the einsy rambo board.

Thank you everyone.  I'll be sure to reach out to Prusa before hand, but I'm guessing that there will be some way to change cables when I upgrade to the MK4 if that's the only difference.

It'd be great if you could share the answers you get. I have the same question, when all of the kits are available for purchase I plan to upgrade both the printer and the MMU.

I just got out of chat with support.  As others have pointed out, the cable is different.  You buy the upgrade kit that matches your printer (MK3S+ for me) and the MMU3 works with the cables provided.  Then when you upgrade the printer to an MK4 you get a signal cable from the parts store to include in your order.

Thanks for the extra clarification. You should share that with the folks that work your chat support so they better understand.

I'm really looking forward to upgrading!

@jakub-dolezal, do you know when the standalone "MMU3 MK4 parts" will be available in the shop, if they are not already? I am in the same situation as OP, and am eager to get my MMU3 up and running on my upgraded MK4.
