Changing filament?

In all the announcements about MMU3, I didn't see any mention of how to change the filament in one slot. I'm guessing you just make a different slot active, then manually rotate the spool in reverse to drag the filament out of the MMU and through all the PTFE tubing, but if it is more complicated than that, it would be nice to know.

RE: Changing filament?

Google for Prusa MMU2+ video and it will explain everything. I believe it will very similar as MMU3.

Changing filament refers to the process of replacing the current filament spool used in a 3D printer with a different one. 3D printers use various types and colors of filaments, such as PLA, ABS, PETG, or TPU, to create 3D printed objects.

Here are the general steps to change the filament on a typical FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printer:

Preparation: Ensure that you have the new filament spool ready, and it is compatible with your 3D printer. Make sure the printer is turned on and heated up to the appropriate temperature for the filament you want to remove.

Heat the Nozzle: In most cases, you need to preheat the nozzle to the temperature at which the current filament can be easily removed. This temperature will vary depending on the type of filament you are using (e.g., around 200°C for PLA).

Unload the Filament: Go to the printer's control panel or interface and find the option to unload or retract the filament. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the unloading process.

Remove the Filament: As the filament is being retracted, gently pull it upwards to remove it from the extruder. Some printers might have a lever or release mechanism to aid in this process.

Load the New Filament: Cut the end of the new filament at a 45-degree angle to create a pointed tip. Feed the new filament into the printer's extruder, following the specific guidance for your 3D printer model.

Feed the New Filament: Continue feeding the new filament until you can see it emerging from the nozzle. This might require manually pushing the filament through the hotend until the extruder motor takes over.

Test Print: Once the new filament is loaded, perform a test print to ensure it is flowing smoothly and consistently.

It's worth noting that the specific steps and procedures may vary slightly depending on the make and model of your 3D printer. Always consult your printer's manual or the manufacturer's guidelines for the most accurate and detailed instructions on changing the filament for your particular printer. Additionally, follow safety precautions, especially when dealing with a heated printer nozzle
