MMU3 loads incorrect filament

I have upgraded my MMU2 to MMU3 and have not being able to get it working. Had heaps of load errors and idler homing problems. I finally managed to get all the filament to preload but when I try to load to nozzle random filament is trying to load. For example, I select load filament 4, the idler moved to the correct position but then filament 1 starts coming out. I select 5 and 3 comes out?

I've got the latest firmware etc and it's random... no pattern I can discern.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's doing my head in... haven't been able to do one print yet 🙁

RE:

Sounds like an idler homing problem.  It homes by turning in both directions and monitoring the rise in motor current when it stalls at the limits of rotation.  If there is too much friction in turning, the motor will require more current and may appear to the monitor to be stalled before it has rotated all the way to the stops.  If I recall correctly from the building instructions, they caution against over tightening the motor mounting screws as this could skew the motor.  Try loosening, then retighten them evenly across the motor.  Also, make sure the grub screws are tight holding the idler to the motor shaft.  Best of luck to you!

Thanks LarGriff... I finally got the correct filament coming through, strangely, by hitting reset 3 times. I was still having problems loading so I ended up removing the buffer completely and running the filament directly from the spools... it now loads all the way to the nozzle. So it appears the buffer may hold too much tension so the filament can't pass through. I tested pulling the filament through the buffer first to see if there was any tension but it all flowed freely so I didn't think it was that... I only removed the buffer due to frustration of continuously pulling out the cassettes to adjust filament position.

I'll run my first test 5 colour print today and see if it works now.

RE:

That’s really strange that resetting 3 times would fix a problem.

You said you have the latest firmware, I assume you meant on the printer.  You also need to make sure the MMU has the latest firmware (I think it’s 3.0.3 at this time).  You can check it from the printer Info>Versions screen.

Buffer friction matters, of course, but I can’t imagine any way that would cause the problems you had.  Best of luck!
