Spool Join Run Out Not retracting

I'm almost there with getting my MMU2 working great.  I'm having pretty reliable success with color swaps, but I'm still having an issue when operating in single mode using spool join.  The main use I have for the MMU2 right now is being able to have multiple spools loaded, and let it take care of swapping to the next spool when one runs out, but my issue right now is that when a spool runs out, it's not actually gripping it when the extruder backs it up to the selector, and thus is requiring me to take off the tube connecting the selector to the extruder and manually pull the filament free.  Has anyone else run into this issue and/or have a solution?

Make sure you cut your filament not only the tip but also the end @45 degree angle. The ends need to go through the selector backwards and there are  5 gates to pass. This might fail. Easiest way to check on this is to unscrew the PTFE tube at the FINDA, take some filament and try to push it through for each filament path. If that doesn't work, try to improve the path.

You can also increase the screw pressure on the selector to increase the chance to push the filament through.

Having to be there to cut the end of a spool kinda defeats the point of using spool join.  If I have to be there to cut the ends of the spool as it's running out, that isn't really operating as intended.

I've spent quite some time trying to get the tension on the MMU2 itself, so that it's tight enough to grip, but not so tight that it grinds the filament (was having a lot of issues with flament getting ground and not being able to push into the extruder.

I hear you. But I don't see any other options. Some filament rolls allows you to cut the end way before the filament really ends. But sometimes the ends are hidden and bent at 90 degree angle. If you keep it like that, it will pull till the FINDA triggers and then get stuck either in the selector or later in at the bobbin.
