New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
I tried to upgrade the MMU2S firmware with the new MMU3 version just released. At the same time, I updated the printer firmware to 3.13.0 as it was pointed out that those two upgrades need to go together. After the upgrade and activating the MMU again in the printer settings (which I missed first) the printer seems to talk to the MMU but the MMU seems to operate the wrong stepper motors, resulting in a complaint on the printer screen that the MMU cannot home the idler.
Has anyone already done the upgrade successfully? Is there maybe some rewiring needed to connect the stepper motors to different plugs on the board? Or anything else I overlooked?
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
MMU3 firmware compatibility
It is important to distinguish between two types of firmware. One firmware is designed for the MMU (2S or 3) unit, the other one is for the printer. Due to major changes, both firmwares must be updated and can't be combined with any previous releases.
Compatibility:
3.12.2 + 1.0.6 (firmware combination valid until this release)3.13.0 + 3.0.0 (firmware combination starting this release)
Running a combination of older 3.12.2 with newer 3.0.0 or newer 3.13.0 with older 1.0.6 will not work correctly due to major changes in both firmwares for the MMU (2S or 3) unit and the printer.

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
Yes, this is well known and I stated in my second sentence that I did exactly that.
Did you successfully perform the update yourself?
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
I have applied the update successfully and I am printing with it right now. I've had to add a usb power adapter to the usb connector on the mmu to get it to stop crashing, but since adding the extra power it has been successfully printing for about 10 hours now. Its on filament change 111 as we speak. This is night and day better. There is two way communication between the printer and mmu, and the mmu is near silent on loading and unloading. I am amazed to be honest. this thing was soo much louder than it is now.
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
When you say you applied the update, are you talking about the firmware update only (like I did) or the full hardware upgrade?

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
I am having the same issues as well.
Upgraded MK3S+ to the new firmware 3.13 and then upgraded MMU2 to the 3.0 firmware release. MMU2 was working before the firmware update. Now I keep getting the IDLER CANNOT HOME. I did release the idler screws and place my thumb on the cam while it was trying to home and it did actually complete the check ?!?
Thinking it might not be calibrated for the MMU2 motors feedback?
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
Just updated both firmwares. Old mmu2s hardware.
RE:
@joantabb you are confusing MMU2->MMU3 upgrade and MMU2 firmware update to 3.0!! This thread is about updating MMU2 with the current firmware, not the hardware upgrade...
I would also be interested if somebody successfully did the firmware (and only the firmware) update of the MMU2, like the OP asked.

Same problem here, if I lose the screws, homing is ok. But it is to loose for the filament.
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
Hey @joantabb, since you started the mix-up, could you please untangle this thread and move the MMU3 entries to a different thread in the MMU3 sub-forum, and leave the MMU2 with firmware 3.0 entires here, where they belong - so we can continue talking about the MMU2 firmware update?

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
I've successfully Updated my MK3s+ to 3.13 and my MMU2s to 3.0 i don't have any issues by now. Printer and MMU are working just fine. But only did some Single Color Prints since the Update.

Meanwhile, I found https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/4285 , which seems to describe my problems very well. Will try those suggestions the upcoming week.
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
The mmu3 has a daughter board that connects to the mother board since you don't have that communication are probably getting mixed up if I was you guys I'd wait till some have their mmu3 and make sure there's works fine that's only a couple a days away

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
@hallo I don‘t understand how anything the MMU3 has or what anyone does when they have a MMU3 has any impact on how to run a MMU2S with the new firmware.

You've got to download the mmu2s firmware on the downloads page the mmu2s firmware is the mmu3 firmware with slight modification

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
Now for the ultimate question, I have mk3s, mmu2s and a revo hotend. Do I flash the REvo 13.13 firmware on the mk3s, and then the mmu3 firmware on my mmu2s?
RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
Yes revo to mk3 and mmu2s firmware ( which is the mmu3 firmware but slightly moded)

RE: New MMU3 firmware upgrade on MK3S+ with MMU2S
My MK3S with MMU2 was working fine before, but now I have upgraded to both new Firmware, every time I start a print it asks me is the filament unloaded. So I click yes it then asks me which filament to load 1,2,3 etc. so I load 1, then it goes and does the bed levelling for a second time then starts the print ok and does the filament changes ok. Its just the start os the print seems stuffed. Any ideas?
I have done all the calibrations again to make sure it was good. Also the filament sensor on the MMu and the one on the Printhead are working and registering filament ok.

According to the change-log ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases/tag/v3.13.0 ) the new firmware pack for mk3/mmu2 natively supports the Revo hotend, so you do not need anything but the 3.13.0 (3.0.0) firmware from Prusa ( https://help.prusa3d.com/downloads )

RE:

How do you know, that it’s the mmu3 firmware with “slight modification”? (It seems the same to me, there is no mention of a 3.0.0 for mmu3 and a different for mmu2. Much like there never was a difference in mk3 firmware with or without mmu2 - but I don’t know, but I would be interested, so: how do you know?)
And why does that matter for the OP’s problem, since he is having problems running it on a mmu2s, which it officially supports?
