Menu doesn't load when filament sensor is plugged in

I have the original i3 MK3, which I recently updated with the MMU2. When the filament sensor cable (white, black and red) is connected to the electronics board, and I turn on the printer, the menu doesn't load. I see "Original Prusa i3 Prusa Research" on the LCD, but it never passes this point. When I restart the printer with the cable unplugged, the menu loads fine.

I've followed the instructions to connect everything based on these instructions. The filament sensor cable is connected per Step 27.

I've flashed the following firmwares:

  • prusa3d_fw_MK3S_3_10_0_4481.hex
  • prusa3d_fw_MMU2board_1_0_6.hex

Is there a short? What could be the cause?

It does sound like a short.  Check the part/cable with a multimeter, what do you get?

Cheerio,

Thanks for the answer. After reading some other users' issues, I downgraded the firmware to 3.9 and now the system boots up correctly. Now I can't get IR to be 1, so I will still have to test with a multimeter. I can't set the resistance on mine so I'll have to pick up a more advanced one.

I have the same problem. I am not sure what is the cause. But I cannot upgrade to firmware newer than 3.9 either. The filament sensor is not working after I did the upgrade. I made a thread here where I am trying to figure it out.

RE: Menu doesn't load when filament sensor is plugged in

I have the exact same issue with two MK3's.  Both were updated to the 3.10.1 firmware at the same time, and both now hang on the loading screen after reboot.  Unplugging the sensor enables both printers to finish booting immediately.   I tried installing a new sensor, but the issue persists.  Rolling back to 3.9 firmware fixes the issue, but why is this happening?  And how can it be fixed.  The same issue manifesting on two separate devices at the same time seems to preclude a hardware issue, particularly since a new sensor has no effect.  Can anyone help with this?
