Just installed MMU2S to i3 MK3S. All is well except filament present not showing on LCD. I never see a 1 or 0, only a ?

Things I've tried:

reinstalling firmware on MMU2 and MK3S

new IR sensor

double checked connection in box

checked electrical continuity of wire harness from IR sensor to box

 

Any ideas would be appreciated.

IR-Sensor activated in the lcd? If not, you see only n/a.

I have tried activating and deactivating. The display on shows "?" next to the "F"

It will show "?" until a filament is actually loaded. Something has to happen for the printer to know which filament it is currently on, such as a T-code in a print or a manual load to nozzle from the menu. MMU to printer comms is somewhat limited, changing the selected filament from the MMU itself using the buttons is not enough.

Which firmware have you installed? This one: https://cdn.prusa3d.com/downloads/firmware/prusa3d_fw_3_8_1_MK3S_1_0_6_MMU2S.zip

The IR sensor should show the value 0 in the display even if it is disconnected.

Hi you got a new sensor with the kit and you have the old sensor. Swap them and see if that fixes it.
