How to Design a multi color Print

Hey guys i have came up with some designs going forward that require multi color and material so i ordered a prusa mk3+ and the MMU2s and got it all put together. My question is how does one make a design that the prusa slicer software recognizes as seperate body? is it just an assembly file or what?

I'm not sure if it is the right or the easiest way to do it, but this is how I do it.

When I design some thing in Fusion360 that I want to print in multi colors I make the parts separate bodies in F360. Than save them as separate .stl files.

In PrusaSlicer I select the right printer profile (Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+ MMU2S ) and load all the stl files at the same time.

PrusaSlicer pops up a message about "Multi part object detected" and if you want to load these as single object having multiple parts. Answer "yes"

Now you will see all the separate stl files listed on the right and you can assign a extruder to each of them.

Have a look at the documentation too. https://help.prusa3d.com/en/category/multi-material-slicing_881

Than save them as separate .stl files.

???

thank you guys for the reply i am using creo parametric. I have been using this to model for years but i do not know how to save stl with multiple bodies in it. I have figured out the slicer software and creating multi color prints just don't know how to make a model that is ready fir this.

One stl per part

In your design program you will have the separate bodies in one file, export each body as a different stl.

In PrusaSlicer import all stls in one go (you will get the message as described above) or
import the first stl, right click on that first part in PrusaSlicer and choose add part for each of the following stls.

You can assign a filament to each of the different parts.

how do you fit the parts together in the slicer? i have no problem saving an stl individually but then the orientation in the assembly will be messed up wont it?

Creo modeling

but i do not know how to save stl with multiple bodies in it

Creo Parametric does not work with bodies. Model your geometry in different parts and export separate STL from each part. Then, when adding the STL to the slicer, select all STLs and add them in one step to the slicer. Then:

PrusaSlicer pops up a message about "Multi part object detected" and if you want to load these as single object having multiple parts. Answer "yes"

RE: mmu magic

I model a multipart item, in my 3d design program, then save the individual parts as individual STL's

after thatt here are two ways to load them into Prusa Slicer...

Option 1, Open Prusa Slicer in Multimaterial mode,
then from Plater, click the Add icon, and choose all of the components to the model, press enter, and Prusa Slicer should ask

if you want them to be considered as a single object with multiple parts
Choose YES and your parts should all load in the correct relative positions!

Option 2, Add the first part to Prusa Slicer, then Right Click the first item

then choose Add Part > Load, and choose the next STL
then Prusa Slicer should add the new part with the correct relationship to the first part.

Once the parts are all loaded, allocate the relevant extruders to the appropriate parts.
