FINDA issue again. MMU2 Firmware bug or MK3S firmware bug ?

Hi,

today I was testing a multicolour print with MMU2S, when (among the issues)  a filament was unloaded and nothing happened.

I heard silence, and looked at the printer, and there was nothing special on the LCD. Just as it was printing.
The MMU2S was desperately unrolling but the filament was already all out.

After some minutes I got the message "Filament unload Failed" on the LCD and the MMU2S stopped with a red led.

I already had this firmware bug, so I did not loose time with the filament, I just removed the MMU2-Extruder PTFE, and moved with a PLA stick the FINDA metal ball, to ensure there was no plastic strings, and then immediately I went to SUPPORT/SENSORS.
As usual I saw FINDA: 1

  1. I moved the ball and noticed no status change (as usual).
  2. I push the reset MMU2 button and reset the MMU2 board.
  3. After the reset process the LCD still showed STATUS: 1.
  4. The MMU2S refused to load the filament (error after pressing the central button)
  5. I push the reset MMU2 button again.
  6. I moved the slot with left/right buttons and it moved. But pressing the central button it just blinked red and refused to load.
When I say "load", I mean LOAD FILAMENT and not LOAD TO NOZZLE.
  7. At this point, as I learnt from the previous times, my only way to fix it was to turn off the printer, in order to restore the FINDA functionality.
  8. But this time I did not want to loose the paused print, so....
  9. I UNPLUG THE CABLE (not the power off switch)
  10. I plugged the cable and went immediately in SUPPORT/SENSOR and of course the FINDA was magically working again with status:0
  11. Unfortunately there was no message telling "do you want to recover your print ?" and the print went lost.
    This is a new bug.
  • Who is the culprit?
  • MMU2 firmware that is not able to read FINDA  or MK3S that does not interact correctly with MMU2 firmware ?
  • And what about the print recovered feature ? It did not worked. 😭

Have you reached out to Support about your FINDA? I'm wondering if maybe you just have a dud since this doesn't seem to be a common issue for others.

As far as the power fail goes, isn't there a setting to enable it (not at my printer to check)? Even so, are we sure it works with the MMU attached? I honestly have no idea, though I can see reasons for it to be disabled even if it is technically doable.

Thank you for your detailed description. Also in my MMU2 I had to optimize a lot in the past weeks, so it works almost 100%. For me, the 3.7.1 / 1.0.5 firmware works, I could not find your problem until today and after a few thousand filament changes. In your case, this is probably a hardware error. Possibly the Finda itself. Is the Finda lit up correctly?
Such a fatal error in the firmware would have long been known, there would be many more messages of this kind.
Power-Panic also never worked properly on my MK3, luckily it does not bother us as we have a stable power grid.

greetings

Yesterday, I upgraded to Firmware 3.7.2 (MMU is already updated to 1.0.5 firmware)

I will see what changes.

Brave man. After another 2 weeks of downtime due to simply moving my spools I'm afraid to mess with anything now that it's working 🤣
