Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder

Has anyone used this system? What are the similarities and differences of this vs the MMU2s?

I'm guessing from the lack of response, the answer is "no". It looks like a good open-source MMU. There's an informative video here:

I take from that video that this MMU may be just as finicky as the Prusa MMU2S. It has some nice features, like a grabber to prevent filaments from slipping out of the unit when not in use, but otherwise it seems to work like the Prusa one. It seems like it would be a non-trivial effort to get it to work with a stock Prusa MK3S. If you don't have a Prusa and you need an MMU, this is probably the way to go, but if you already have a Prusa, you may as well get Prusa's MMU.

I have heard about it, I undestand that it is something like the stock multi-material addon used for Vorons (at least it seems to originate from the Voron community). Never looked at it in detail but from a superficial glance it looks in many ways (but not all) similar to the MMU, yet is more scalable for more filament channels.

For a Prusa I would assume the MMU is the "easier" option, especially as you have already pre-made settings for a lot of filament brands and types and some of them at least work fairly well with a tuned in system. If you are using Klipper however, the Enraged rabbit carrot feeder is probably the better choice.

PS: I have already an MK3s MMU2s in working order, I don't feel the urge to enter that rabbit hole with my Voron too, especially as the combination with a V0.1 is probably a rather awkward one. 😉

yes i currently have it installed on mine. so far i have it feeding but the problem im running into is the filament sensor is higher then the drive gears. so it turns off the ercf drive before the filament is in the extruder gears. so it wont feed. so im working threw that.

ill try and keep you updated.

if anyone has suggestions i would appreciate them

got an answer. the ERCF system works great.

but have to use a different tool head for the mk3

this is what ette from the ercf project said

"You either have to change the software (in many places, because unloads won't work too), or, what I recommend, use a sensor that is either below the extruder gear or at the idler itself. Several people with ercf on mk3 are using the idler sensor with great success"

Grégoire Saunier is working on BearExxa V2 (an upgraded X axis/extruder assembly for Prusa based printers) which is supposed to support the ERCF.  It's available as beta to his patreons, so that might be an option.

This is the first I've heard of this one.

Looks kind of like the MMU2S on steroids.

As the guy says, there's no perfect solution to multi-materials, and this thing has the two issues that most annoy me about the MMU2S, that being the wipe tower and associated waste and the time for each change.

In late 2020 I was able to pick up another printer (Ultimaker S5) from a small company that needed $$$ and that has a dual extruder, and that seems to be the best solution for what I need to do.  For things such as soluble supports and lettering on the top layer, it's fairly quick, just a few seconds to raise/lower the second extruder into printing position and no wipe tower waste, even though the wipe tower does appear to be an option with it, which I have never used.

If I need more than two colors (once in the past 1 1/2 years) I can use the MMU and deal with the waste.

Having used the MMU2S (I seem to have gotten one of the 'good' ones) I know that most foul-ups occur at a filament change.  This 'rabbit feeder' thing appears to use the same general principle as the MMU2S and will have the same number of filament changes per print, and thus the same risk of a f-up, one of which will ruin a multi-hour print.
