Should I follow the build order?

I bought an MMU2s last spring and have yet to assemble it.  Part of the reason has been that my other 2 printers were down and I didn't want to be without a printer while I was doing the MMU assembly.  The other 2 printers are now back in service and I'm thinking it's time to build the MMU2s.

I have 2 questions before I start.  The document says to disassemble the print head and install new parts as the first steps.  My question is, if I rebuild the print head, can I still use my printer as a single filament machine while I built the MMU2s assembly or will the new print head only work with the MMU2?

Secondly, It seems rebuilding the print head and assembling the MMU2s are very separate parts and only come together when you wire in the MMU2s.  Is there anything wrong with assembling the MMU2s and only rebuild the print head when I'm ready to wire in the MMU2s?

Thanks

You can start with sections 4, 5 and 6 and assemble the MMU itself before you need to disturb your printer.

Mechanically, it can work by itself but the filament entry will not be ideal since it has a threaded socket for the tubing. My MMU upgrade kit also came with the parts for a MK3S non-MMU extruder, so if you also have those parts you could build that first (assuming you currently have a MK3 extruder right now and not already a MK3S) — the difference is just a few parts around the filament port and sensor.

This will be fine. The only things that matter to the printer are plugging in the MMU2 (this will change the printer's firmware behavior and it will expect the MMU2 to be functional) and changing the extruder to the version that has the tube fitting on top and the different filament sensor arrangement, so that it works together with the MMU2.
