I give up with this troublesome device and bad support

After hours and hours of trying to get this thing to work I'm removing it from my printer. The technical support offered by Prusa is not very good and the MMU is a troublesome mess., I finally decided to remove it after this technical support response from Douglas at Prusa:

"firstly, I must inform you that we do not suggest installing the MMU kit after such as short time of use with the printer, as we inform all our customers that this kit requires some good user experience with the printer alone first to get good successful results because of this kit being complicated to calibrate." I'm one of their customers and I sure never saw anything in their sales hype that made that statement and they sure didn't warn me when I ordered it.

What a demeaning thing to say to defend their crumby product and poor support, especially to a long time 3d printer user with years of troubleshooting experience.

If you would ask here before buying, you would get the same answer. I believe you can find hundrets of threads explaining, that MMU is not for beginners. Put it down, print for at least 6 month with different filaments, solve some first issues, make couple of first disassemblies and assemblies, and then try again.

I disagree with Milos, First of all I did not buy the MMU to tinker with it all the time. I love my Prusa MK3S but the MMU is nothing but a headache. I waited over six months with no problems printing before I installed the MMU which was purchased with the MK3S . I will say it doesn't like filaments other than Prusa filaments. A little tinkering I can understand but this is just crazy. Prusa knows what they are doing and only got 93% good color changes and I would bet they only used their filaments (Open source filaments? HAHA). I find it funny that I can print the object with one color and works fine then reprint with a different color and still works fine but two colors in the same object then there is a problem. I want to print not read forums for every problem under the sun and I have had them all and still have them.

RE: I give up with this troublesome device and bad support

The MMU is not a tinker machine, however it is a machine that needs to be built precisely according to the manual and on top of that needs quite precise dialing in. There can be further need for trouble shooting and one should be aware of that (even though for some it really does work right out of the box with minimal dialing in). However, once one understands the workings of the machine it does work fairly reliably. The advice that one should first use the MK3s for a few months and get to know it well before attempting to upgrade to the MMU2 is a very true one, even if Prusa doesn't seem to be stressing it too much in its online shop. Which is a valid point of criticism of course.

A well dialed in MMU can achieve thousands of error free filament changes in one go (I printed beyond 1000 hours with it, also with a mix of filament brands in one print). One needs high quality filaments for that but they don't need to be Prusa's or even expensive ones, just of reliable quality where you have good profiles for.

I can agree with you, that sadly Prusa is creating false expectations in its official marketing. Which is why people should read the forum when unsure if the MMU is for them or not.

Mk3s MMU2s, Voron 0.1, Voron 2.4
