I would really recommend that you use PLA till you have the MMU dialed in. PTEG is a very tricky material to get working as it is very stringy, it is almost as hard to print with as TPU in my very limited experience.
Also I found out that if you use the filament change through the LCD, on particularly stringy materials, it simply wont work properly, so avoid manually unloading filament from the LCD if possible, especially if its very stringy.
Other than that, then there IS some maintenance you need to do, and some routine checks you should do when it doesn't work. Clearing the FINDA sensor is essential after printing with stringy filaments in my experience, as it seems to accumulate the strings over time, jamming up in the end.
I read about an open version of the finda assembly, that allows easy checking, cleaning and where the strings sort of just falls out. But I haven't been able to find this upgrade since, maybe it was a fever dream 😀

And the same goes for the MMU2s button interface of course, avoid using it for filament unloading with stringy materials. It does not know about your preferences in slicer and when you select the preheat filament type, it doesn't affect the MMU unloading process but only heating.

I really think that both slicer and the firmware needs some tweaks before this product is fool proof, for one thing, it should be possible to export your MMU2s filament profiles to the SD card, and it should be possible for the firmware to read these and use the correct unloading procedure based on what filament is in use... This is something I would really like to have, but it is kind of a daunting task for me to take, and even if I managed to implement it, I would need to waste a huge amount of time keeping two forks up to date with newest changes, or it will just be my using it anyways.
If anybody knows any of any projects that seek to implement the MMU2s in a better way, I would be very happy to participate in development in any way that I can.

Heh, I just tried a print there...I think this is what happened before. I told it to print from filament 2....it positioned itself ready for filament 3...and started spooling filament 2. I cancelled the print, ejected the filament...it didn't actually eject, but at least it 'let go' so I could spool it back manually. Printed again from Octoprint, and the wee LCD asked me which filament. Printing fine now...

Great advice on PETG. Much of the work I was doing on it recently was to make the enclosure...and I'm blown away how much *better* everything looks, now that the room doesn't temperature-swing from 20C to 8C while I'm mid-print. I'm going to try some temperature stacks, to find what works best in the enclosure, next. I also have a wee fan I'll try hook up, so I can make sure it never gets too warm, when doing PLA (rather than opening the door, and hoping for the best).
Would you believe I haven't tried a multi-filament print yet ? I want it back working as a good single-filament printer, before I even try anything advanced like two colours...I assume that's when PETG gets really hard.

The problem with using it as a single mode filament switcher is that it kinda sucks at it, due to it not knowing what the filaments properties are. Always choose the filament you want from slicer and use it like that, it works so much better that way, because it will use the proper retract procedure for the filament.
Switching filament through LCD or buttons works fine for PLA, but not so good for other materials.
