SIlicone sock mould for v6.1?
Has anyone found/made one of those DIY sock moulds for the v6 in the Mk3 with the cartridge thermistor? There are many on Thingiverse for the old style with "bead" thermistor, but I don't see any for the new.
I'm less than impressed with the longevity of the official e3d sock for the price so I figured I'd have a stab at making my own when I can buy 3oz of high-temp RTV for the same price as 3 socks, and still have enough left over for a small cup of coffee...

Derp. I just suck at google today. 😀

I need a few new socks. I reckon I'll give this a go.

FWIW I'm printing my mould in PETG, silicone should stick to it less than PLA.
Re: SIlicone sock mould for v6.1?
Good idea. I used ABS @ 0.1mm layers. I'll see how it goes, and if it sticks I'll acetone treat it.

I didn't have ABS and I figured I'd do PETG because even superglue won't stick to regular polyethylene (PET). Hope ABS works for you 🙂

So my first attempt stuck horribly on the PETG and did not cure. I re-printed it in PLA at 0.10mm layer heights.
Some tips:
- Use a mould release agent. Mix some dish soap in isopropyl alcohol (I did a good squirt of soap in a bottle that has maybe 50 mL left). Soak a cotton pad or ball and wipe down all parts of the mould with this mix.
- You need something to help the silicone cure, since it is almost sealed entirely away from air. Glycerin is perfect for this and mixes in smoothly; just add one or two drops for one mould's worth of material. Stir gently and well. The older your glycerin, the better as it is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air, which is why it helps the silicone cure.
Wait 24 hours and it should pop out quite easily. Trim the flashing and let it sit out for another day or so to finish curing before use.

Thanks for the glycerine tip. Mine have been taking days to cure.
