Review: Cheap MK52 Print Surface

I bought a few of these in black and orange to test on my printer. I tinkered with them for the last two weeks and I have to say I am impressed but will caveate that with a foot note.

Highlights:

  • Aplication: Goes on easy with little to no bubble.

  • Filaments tested: I tested with with Hatchbox PLA, ABS, and PETG. I also did test prints with Prusa PETG and PLA. It really does stick well. The caveate is with PETG. It sticks a little too much and with PETG, I ruined one print and had to sand off some reminants. I would compare the results to BuildTak. I did find that I could retard adhesion with PETG with gluestick.

  • Cost: $3

  • Reccomend: I would recomemnd it as a cheap

Are these the same as the faux buildtak often found on Wanhao i3 plus printers and similar?

If so, that stuff works pretty well. Sometimes adhesion is a bit too high, but on a flexibed that's probably not that much of a problem.

did you use the steel sheet from them as well and if so was it flat with sharp edges smoothed?

Yes, I used their smooth sheet - I put PEI on the other side and used a deburring tool on the edges.

I think so. I have a sheet of that to test next.
