Print quality & Klipper on MK3S+

Hello Prusa fans,

I have an MK3S+ I bought a couple years ago. I remember being pretty concerned about future-proofing since they hadn't updated it to a 32-bit system like the Mini printers are running. Fast-forward and here we are with $1k printers that aren't showing any hope for input shaping and pressure advance support from Prusa as far as I can tell. I hope I'm wrong though, and that they offer a firmware update that includes an input shaping profile in the near future. Marlin does support this now. In the meantime, I just can't convince myself to print on this thing when even my Minis are twice as fast with the input shaping profiles, let alone the speed and superior print quality I'm getting with my Voron v2.4 and X1 Carbon printers. An updated printer profile with input shaping  is possible and would certainly make the MK3S machines much more appealing to use these days.

I'm curious if anyone out there has successfully Klipperized their Prusa MK3S+ and managed to dial in slicer settings/printer profiles that produce at least as good quality prints as stock. Hopefully, they're better than stock with a nice speed bonus to boot. Prusa has obviously put a ton of work into finessing the printer performance on the Marlin side, so I'm a little hesitant to "upgrade" to Klipper only to produce terrible quality prints, ha!

I found this nicely documented process on github for doing a conversion, but it's a bit old at this point and I couldn't find any info about how it worked out. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had good success with a Klipper install. It's a pretty easily reversible process, so I will probably give it a try anyway, but I'm not as talented as some on dialing in the firmware side of things, so figured I'd reach out first.

Also, if you've heard any updates from Prusa about future firmware releases for the MK3S+ that will include input shaping and pressure advance profiles, please share. I'm really hoping Prusa doesn't abandon the prospect of keeping the stock MK3S+ machines competitive with firmware updates. It seems like they're pushing us in the direction of the upgrade kits. I'm just not willing to have a total of nearly $2k invested in this thing after just 2 years of ownership in order to keep it somewhat up-to-date. That's notably more than I've invested into my Voron or my X1C with AMS! Prusa's pulling this off very nicely with the Mini printers, so it's surprising they're not giving the stock MK3 series the same level of commitment so far. I get it from a basic business perspective, but not from the customer support angle, which is part of why we pay the high price tag for not so up-to-date printers.

I want to try this too before abandoning the MK3s for another brand. Did you have any success?

I have a mk3 upgraded to mk3s with out filament sensor. I broke it but do not do massive prints so not a big deal. I would suggest getting btt pi v1.2 and skr mini 3 v3. The screen option is kinda up to you but i know you can sometimes get the kit for like around 150 bucks. Pretty easy to set up once you figure it out. Makes life so much easier with one click wireless printing and web interface to manage machine. I have machine turned down at the moment but usually running 100-150mm/sec as speeds. I have gone up to as much as 250mm/sec. Also right now have profile and running prusa slicer. I was using cura but after recent update started having layer shifts and many failed prints due to slicer. If you have any questions on setting up pi or skr mini board feel free to ask. Bob

Here is a lithopane i recently did on the prusa mk3s running klipper. So print quality is gonna depend on you and how you have machine and slicer set up.
