Nextruder for MK3S(+)

Hey friends,

Do you think that the Nextruder with all its marvels such as cycloidal drive and quick tool change can be adapted to other printers, such as the i3 MK3S(+)? I haven't bought the MMU2S yet and I'm considering a color/filament change system. It would be so wonderful if this Nextruder thing can be adapted for the i3 MK3S(+)

To be honest from the little we've seen and heard I very much doubt it can.  It would require to much modification to the whole design.  I think colour/multi material printing of this sort is going to be restricted to printers like the XL (Core XY).  There may well be a MK4 that uses the Nextruder's basic design to improve printing but it won't have filament change options any different to the existing one... unless Jo and the team come up with a major breakthrough.

I’m thinking, no; but hoping for a at least a yes, but.

We might see three different scenarios:

1. the extruder set up mod’d for the Mk3,

2. The tool head swappable

3. At most two tool heads that the machine would swap.

I would think that someone would hack the system and be able to do at least Number 1, if not number 2.  Number three would be a pretty big undertaking.

Of course, maybe this will be what the Mk4 will be?

I’d still really appreciate at least number 2, so that I could have different heads for my XL and Mk3.  I think swappable heads would really help with down time and maintenance.

Please, please, please Prusa…

Just got email from Prusa!

Amongst a lot of great news there is a section on plans for 2022... and it includes:

"...For example, we decided to share more technologies (e.g. Nextruder) across various models of our machines..."

Woohoo!  Presumably this includes Mk3 and maybe Mini?

Sounds like a fun year coming up!
