MK3S no MMU2 Lack Enclosure

The current "Improved" Lack enclosure is designed to accommodate the MMU2 unit.

I don't have any plans to add the MMU2 this year. What do others do about mounting the spool reel? And a filament feed path.

The enclosure is not tall enough to leave it on the MK3S.

I don't see any need to hollow out the top cover until I get a MMU2.

Thanks - this is one heck of a first project...

The original Prusa LACK was not designed for MMU. I used it for a long time and after adding the MMU I modified it using these parts.

You can choose from those different solutions or combine them. Maybe you can add something on your own to improve the enclosure even more.

RMM,

The new Lack enclosure for i3 MK3S/MMU2S is overkill in the parts department.  There is over 100 plus hours of printing involved.  I have printed BOTH and intend to use my Original Lack enclosure for one printer and buy a second one for the MMU2S.  I like the idea of having an enclosure to control drafts, odors and dust.

I plan to use dry boxes for all of my filament with both enclosures.  I also plan to feed my filament directly from those dry boxes.

YMMV.  It's supposed to be fun to experiment.  Go with what works for you and get further guidance on what others have tried.

RAH

RE: MK3S no MMU2 Lack Enclosure

I was in same position as OP. No MMU for foreseeable future. I built the new enclosure and just printed the center section of the spool holders. I drilled a feed hole behind the spool holder and mount my spools to feed off the back of the spool. I have a printed feed tube in the drilled hole for the filament to run smoothly through. If I ever get the MMU I can print a solid plug for the feed hole, hollow out the top then and add the buffer etc.

I put the filament holder on top for original Lack Enclosure.  I live in Michigan and we get some serious humidity at times.  This summer has been about the worst.  My filament started taking on moisture on the top mounted spool holder even though I remove the spool after a print.  (Some of my prints for the enclosure were 12 hours).  I am building dry boxes for my filament for the new Lack MMU2 enclosure.

Well I got my enclosure finished. I love it!

I did not hollow the top for the MMU.

I found a filament holder that uses ball bearings and will mount that to the top. Filament reel sits on it.

A really nice filament funnel that goes through the top.

I think I am set. Thank you for the responses!
