Best part fan shroud

After doing a project that has involved printing lots of nylon-cf composite my fan has started to droop. I figure a good option is to actually print a fan in nylon-cf.

I thought it would be a good opportunity to replace it with an improved design. Where I am struggling is there are so many to choose from!

I was just wondering what is the current 'state-of-the-art' design that everyone is using that doesn't require a modification to the extruder itself?

I'm using the MK3S

I've learned, through experience,  that particular fan cooling nozzle droops down on the side that isn't fastened to the hotend. I've had pretty good luck with the RHD CS nozzle on thingiverse. It stays perpendicular to the extruder. I printed it in Prusament PC blend. I've been printing a lot with hot end temps greater than 250 the majority of the time and it hasn't drooped or melted yet.

Would be curious to see cooling test results. I tried several Mk3 designs on the ATOM80 overhang test and finally settled on the default Prusa design pulled into Fusion 360 to add some fillets along the air flow path. Printed in Colorfabb HT (100C) and it's done we'll for me. I normally top off at 270C temps for prints (3DXtech matte PETG).

Have not done the Mk3s upgrade, so would have to modify the current design. I may also try a beefier part cooling fan.

I tried this shroud and printed it with Priline PC CF. Then I installed this new shroud and printed several PC CF parts. There was a DEFINITE improvement in the cooling. All the new parts came out excellent. I definitely like this new shroud.

I've also been using the RHD CS nozzle shroud on Thingiverse and it has been working very well.  I only print PLA, PETG, and TPU, so I printed it in clear PETG.

I printed it in clear because I thought that might absorb less radiant heat but I wonder if white would be better?  Maybe I should do a test with 2 parts and a heat lamp, with thermocouples embedded in the parts.  Sounds like a project for the next time I'm really bored.

Question here, actually a sanity check, for you or anyone who knows for sure.

Is this a total drop-in (bolt-in) replacement for the original that needs no more mods or tweaks?

Thanks.

@jsw

I can answer for the RHD CS nozzle shroud.  For that one you need to print a new bracket for the fan to screw into, so there are 2 new parts to print if you want to use that shroud.  The reason for the new bracket is that the blower is a few mm farther out.  Both parts simply replace the 2 Prusa parts without any mods.

I printed and used it as a direct replacement. I have a stock MK3S printer. The is a nice upgrade, especially if you have a good filament. I was running test prints on the Priline PC CF. I wanted to see how well it had held up to the heat. So far, so good print nozzle @ 255.

Thanks.

I just ordered a roll of the Prusament PC Blend, a good excuse to try it out.

I've been doing a lot of ABS printing lately and I'm noticing that the one part of the stock fan shroud is starting to droop a bit.  Nothing serious as of yet, and I do have a spare one already printed in my 'crash kit', but since this is an upgrade, I'll add it to the tasks to do when I finish this one project and shut down the machine for some other upgrades.

This was the one I was originally using:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/32639-mk3s-blower-shroud-remix-without-support-arm-thick

Though I couldn't say if it was objectively better. I might try the one that everyone is suggesting.

This one seems interesting with it's use of CFD:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/29462-fan-duct-optimised

However he hasn't made one for MK3S.

@jsw

this is an drop-in replacement. Just unscrew your old part and insert this new one.
