Verdict: All is within tolerance, nothing to worry about (and it's not having a detrimental impact on my prints at all). They are spec'd at 0.05 clearance and measuread at exactly 8.05mm. 

Picture of the filament swatch box I printed the other day (with cheap far-east PLA, no less). I'd say this surface finish speaks for itself. 

 

... Now to either gear my X/Y or do the 0.9 degree mod... 🙂

Do you have a link for those swatches and swatch box? Looks handy.

i already have some misumi on hand waiting to install, but I will keep these in mind for next time. Any thing to quiet down those long fast moves would be nice.

The box (and lid) are in the same thing repository. For my collection I print the boxes out in 3 colors, all transparent:

  • Natural/Clear - For the spools I currently have. Clear to better make out the colors.
  • Yellow - For samples and spools that are about to run out. I.E. I have these colors, but only suitable for small prints.
  • Red - For filament that I've run out of.

I actually print these swatches out at 0.1mm layer thickness (instead of the suggested 0.2mm) otherwise the edge printing isn't clear enough for my aged eyes to make out.

I ordered a full set of 12 to replace mine. I'll give a full write-up after i put them through some tests.

Have you already finished your tests? I'd like to hear about your results.

Hi @vintagepc,

I started another thread to ask about your longer term thoughts on these bearings but once I realized that tagging folks on this fine forum does nothing I figured I'd just revive this old thread.

So, are you still using the Vesconite bearings?  I've been sitting on them since this discussion as I had just ordered Misumi rods and bearings and had them installed well before the Vesconite's showed up.  It's now time for another maintenance tear-down and thought I'd try to see if it's a worthwhile swap.  Very happy with the Misumi's but if I can get it quieter and maintain the quality, well that sounds like a good deal.

I am building a bear frame and this sounds very interesting, anyone have any input on the VESCONITE  bearings ?

Sorry to dig up an old thread but thought i'd throw in my own experience as it goes on. I ordered a sample pack from vesconite and have installed them on my X and Y axis with 3 superlubes on the X axis and 3 hilubes on the Y as i noted in another thread that using superlubes on y resulted in some side to side play. XYZ cal ran with no issues and i noticed no degradation in quality when printing a benchy, noticeably quieter compared to properly lubed misumi bearings. I'll provide updates as time goes on.
