AI/ML Print failure detection (via WebCam)
Hi Everyone!
I'm new to 3D printing, but I'm a long-time maker and hobbyist.
My "real" job is in computer automation though, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any projects using Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) to detect failed print jobs and automatically stop their 3D printer.
I was thinking it could be a good use of object detection, an/or teaching the algorithms what your print is supposed to look like (feeding it the STL file) or what it isn't (feeding it images of giant blobs 🙄 ) and then letting it use a WebCam to monitor the print (for example feeding it the stream from Octoprint).
Anyhow, just thought I would throw my $0.02 in the ring, looking forward to seeing what you guys think!
Ian

Well, there's this, for one:

I've been participating in The Spaghetti Detective BETA for a couple weeks now, and it definitely works.
I do still get a decent amount of false-positives, but it allows you to set it to just notify you via Text or E-Mail and then login to check the status. From there you can send a command to Stop the print if it is indeed failing.
Not sure if the false "errors" are due to my camera or lighting, but I've setup a few prints that were purposely designed to fail and it detected each of them successfully.
