Slic3er (1.31.6) raft and first layer incorrect height

I'm having issues when using a raft.
I have the first layer setting at 0.2mm and subsequent layers also at 0.2mm
I have 1 raft layer selected.
there doesn't seem to be a setting to set the raft height??

in the preview window it's showing the raft printing at 0.2mm
I would then expect the first layer from the model to print at 0.4 as 0.2 is the first layer height setting.
but.. it's not printing until 0.7

there is support material printing at 0.4 but not the model.

I noticed this issue when i was printing ABS with a raft for the first time. the raft stuck fine but the next layer printed in the air because it was at 0.7mm (0.5mm from the raft)

If i turn off the raft and simulate, the first layer goes back to 0.2 like it should.

has anyone else got this issue?? ❓

I have seen lots of strangeness with the Raft setting. I stopped using it and simply expand my Brim by a large margin. Seems all of the support material features in Slic3r are not quite ready for prime time. Hoping for a new release. In the meantime using KISS when I really need good support or designing them in manually which seems to be the best option. You get exactly what you want, no surprises.

Re: Slic3er (1.31.6) raft and first layer incorrect height

The object 1st layer is printed with a programmable gap above the raft top surface. The catch is, the 1st object layer over the raft surface is printed with a bridging flow, which is expected to generate rounded extrusions (with circular cross sections), so these threads touch the raft top surfaces tangentially, making the removal easy. Also one has to enable the "detect bridging perimeters" check box, otherwise the 1st layer perimeters are printed with a normal layer width, therefore too high above the raft. This is not obvious and it needs to be documented.

You may try to set the support gap to 0.001 to force Slic3r to print the 1st object layer directly over the raft, but it may not be enough. I shall probably rework the raft to use a separate settings from the normal supports.
